Early in the offseason, the Kansas City Chiefs have already experienced quite a bit of change. Most of that is on the coaching staff, and the player personnel ranks should follow suit in March.
In the interim, a critical piece of general manager Brett Veach’s staff is generating buzz. An NFC team expressed interest in poaching from Kansas City.
Chiefs Assistant GM Mike Bradway Requested to Interview With Falcons
Per a January 21 report from Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, assistant general manager Mike Bradway has received an interview request from the Atlanta Falcons. The inquiry is a part of their ongoing search for a new general manager.
“The Falcons have requested to interview Chiefs assistant GM Mike Bradway for their GM job, sources say,” Rapoport’s tweet began. “A top lieutenant to GM Brett Veach, Bradway is next in a line of top KC personnel minds to explore a big job.”
On January 4, Atlanta announced that it shook things up in a major way. Head coach Raheem Morris got relieved of his duties, as did then-general manager Terry Fontenot. Despite winning their last four regular-season games, the Falcons finished 8-9 for the second consecutive season.
Atlanta’s interview requests now include Bradway, Ian Cunningham (Chicago Bears assistant GM), James Liipfert (Houston Texans assistant GM), Josh Williams (San Francisco 49ers director of scouting and football ops) and Andy Weidl (Pittsburgh Steelers assistant GM). Weidl is already in the interview process.
Without a first-round pick, the Falcons’ next general manager has their work cut out for them. The absence of a franchise quarterback adds even more fuel to that fire.
Closer Look at Bradway & the Brett Veach Managerial Tree
Bradway, a Villanova graduate, started his career with the Philadelphia Eagles. After a decade of working his way up to assistant director of college scouting, he departed for Kansas City. In his first three years with the Chiefs, he served as assistant director of player personnel. A promotion to senior director of player personnel ensued, culminating with his most recent experience.
Entering the 2025-26 campaign, Bradway was promoted to assistant general manager. He helped oversee a tumultuous offseason that netted a potential blue-chip prospect in first-round NFL Draft pick, left tackle Joshua Simmons. He also worked on a staff that whiffed on some moves, such as signing cornerback Kristian Fulton and running back Elijah Mitchell.
This is far from the first time a Veach assistant landed interview requests. It likely won’t be the last, either. In the past, pillars like Ryan Poles (Bears GM), Brandt Tilis (Carolina Panthers executive VP of football ops) and Mike Borgonzi (Tennessee Titans GM) have found better roles elsewhere.
Each of those front office aces has a background in navigating difficult waters with the Chiefs. It’s hard to have limited resources and sustain a contender, which Bradway acknowledged back in August when speaking about a late waiver wire ranking.
“That’s just the reality of it,” Bradway said. “It’s a good problem to have. You’ve hit on it pretty well; you’re far down on the claim. Right now, we’re talking to every team in the league. Myself, all our contacts, we’re just gathering information now. Whether that would mean potentially trading for a guy, doing a player-for-player swap, maybe there could be a guy that you think would be available to claim.
“We’re going to be active. We’re going to watch as many tapes as possible. Maybe it just doesn’t work out, but we’re going to identify certain players that we think could help us now [and] down the road and see where it goes.”
That football acumen may soon be put to the test should Bradway interview with Atlanta.
