Taylor Swift is facing renewed scrutiny from some fans online, while Travis Kelce is celebrating a major career decision. The singer has been the subject of debate in recent weeks after critics questioned the timing of several music releases. Meanwhile, Kelce confirmed he will return for another season with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Taylor Swift Popularity Poll Drop Sparks Renewed Discussion

Swift has long been one of the most recognizable and successful figures in the music industry, but recent polling suggests a shift in public perception.

According to a YouGov poll, Swift’s approval rating has declined over the past year. The poll showed the singer’s approval rating was 55.4 percent in on January 1, 2025, but dropped to 46.7 percent in 2026.

Swift has built a reputation for maintaining strong chart performance. One method frequently used by the singer involves releasing alternate versions or extended editions of albums to boost sales and streaming numbers.

That strategy sparked debate in May 2024 when Swift released two special editions of her album “The Tortured Poets Department” on the same day Billie Eilish released her album “Hit Me Hard and Soft.”

Some observers viewed the move as a calculated effort to maintain Swift’s position at the top of the charts.

A similar situation occurred in the United Kingdom the following month. Charli XCX was widely expected to earn a number one album with “Brat,” but Swift released six deluxe versions of “The Tortured Poets Department” that were available only in the UK.

The releases pushed Swift back into the top spot, leaving Charli XCX at number two.

Taylor Swift Faces Criticism Over Bad Bunny Chart Battle Claims

More recent discussion about Swift centers around the release of the music video for “Opalite,” the second single from her album “The Life of a Showgirl.”

Swift released the video on Apple Music and Spotify on February 6 before posting it on YouTube on February 8. The YouTube release coincided with the day Bad Bunny performed during the Super Bowl.

Some fans questioned the timing of the video release, since Swift filmed it in London months earlier.

One fan wrote on Reddit, “The fact she waited until the Super Bowl to drop it and overshadow a Latino artist during such a pivotal moment in his career and for Latinos in general while the US goes down in flames due to ICE persecuting immigrants is insanely tone deaf.”

Swift then released several additional versions of the song in the following weeks. The Chris Lake remix arrived on February 17, followed by remixes from BUNT, Ely Oaks, and Skream the next day.

The releases followed an acoustic version that Swift shared on January 21.

Some online critics claimed that the multiple releases were intended to limit attention on Bad Bunny. However, the Puerto Rican star’s song “DTMF,” the title track from his Grammy-winning album “Debí Tirar Más Fotos,” climbed to the top of the Billboard Hot 100.

An unnamed insider told the cited by the Daily Mail that the competition should not be viewed as personal.

“The truth is, Taylor is competitive and knows that chart battles are great for the industry because it keeps fans engaged,” the source said. “It isn’t hostile at all, but may seem that way to people who weren’t around in the 1990s when it was even more competitive and people actually had to sell the records. So, it is competitive, but far from hostile. She loves Bad Bunny.”

Travis Kelce Confirms Kansas City Chiefs Return During Major Career Moment

While Swift faces online debate, Kelce is celebrating his decision to continue his NFL career.

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end confirmed he will return for a 14th season with the team. Kelce shared a highlight video on Instagram showing moments with quarterback Patrick Mahomes, defensive lineman Chris Jones, head coach Andy Reid, center Creed Humphrey, and other teammates.

Kelce captioned the video with a short message signaling his excitement for the upcoming season.

“Let’s get this thing rockin!! 🏹🏟️,” Kelce wrote.

Mahomes quickly responded in the comments, writing, “LFGGGGGGG!!!!!”

Humphrey also joined the conversation, posting, “Run it back LFG!!!!!”

Kelce later explained his decision on the podcast “New Heights,” which he co-hosts with his brother Jason Kelce.

“About midway through the season,” Kelce said when asked when he first believed he would likely return.

Kelce said he waited to publicly confirm the decision because he wanted time to process the Chiefs’ difficult season.

“I’ve made decisions based off of emotions, and, you know, they haven’t always played out the right way,” Kelce said. “So I think taking a step back, letting the emotions settle down.”

Kelce said the season’s outcome motivated him to continue playing.

“Of course, I don’t want to end my career not making the playoffs, not having one of the best years, and definitely having a down year and all that,” Kelce said.

He said the competitive drive ultimately pushed him to return.

“It still felt like I was hungry enough to get back at it,” Kelce said. “And obviously there’s still a little bit of that grit and that emotion that, you know, I hated the way that (stuff) ended last year. And I want to do this. I want to make it right.”
