The Las Vegas Raiders‘ offense was the worst in the NFL this season. The group could only muster 14.2 points per game.
Head coach Pete Carroll was fired, and it looks like an offensive-minded coach will be hired to replace him. If the Raiders do hire somebody like Klint Kubiak, they’re going to want more firepower on offense.
The quarterback need should be addressed with the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, but the Raiders have some other major needs on offense. Wide receiver might be the biggest non-quarterback need. With the first-round pick almost certainly being used on a quarterback, it’ll be difficult for Las Vegas to find an instant impact player.
That’s why they could look to the trade market to find a difference-maker. CBS Sports’ Tyler Sullivan thinks the Philadelphia Eagles could trade All-Pro wide receiver A.J. Brown, and he listed the Raiders among the teams that would likely be interested.
“Brown has consistently been linked to trade rumors over the last few years,” Sullivan wrote. “The tumultuous relationship between the wideout and the Eagles is well-documented. During Philadelphia’s playoff loss to the 49ers, Brown was seen in a sideline altercation with coach Nick Sirianni, further suggesting this tenure may have run its course. For Brown, he did not seem thrilled with his role in the offense this season, and, from Philadelphia’s point of view, it may make sense to move on from a soon-to-be 29-year-old receiver who is due $29 million in guaranteed salary in 2026.”
How Much Is Brown Going to Cost?
Brown is one of the best wide receivers in the NFL, but things are souring in Philadelphia. The Eagles likely aren’t eager to trade him, but there’s too much drama to keep him around.
He’s got a ton of money left on his contract. With that in mind, Sullivan thinks that he’s only worth a third and fifth-round pick in a trade.
“When Philadelphia acquired Brown from the Titans in 2022, the Eagles sent the No. 18 overall pick in that year’s draft to Tennessee,” Sullivan wrote. “Getting a first (or maybe even a second) at this stage of Brown’s career seems a little too far-fetched, particularly with his age and contract situation (signed through 2029 and due $29 million in guarantees next season). Brown also appeared to lose a step in 2025, notably dropping some key balls in that playoff defeat to San Francisco. That may also make some prospective teams a bit skittish about trading blue-chip draft capital for him.”
Worth the Risk for the Raiders?
The Raiders have had bad luck in the past trading for disgruntled star wide receivers. That might be enough to scare them off the idea of trading for Brown.
While Brown can be difficult, he doesn’t have major off-the-field concerns. He just gets moody when he doesn’t get the ball enough. That’s the case with most top wide receivers.
A third and fifth-round pick wouldn’t be a high price to pay to pair a rookie quarterback with one of the best wide receivers in the NFL. An offense with potentially Fernando Mendoza, Brock Bowers, Ashton Jeanty and Brown with a coach like Kubiak calling the plays could be lethal.
