There are always some players who everybody seems to love, and former Las Vegas Raiders punter Marquette King was no different.

King, who was the Raiders’ punter from 2013 to 2017, was definitely one of the more exciting personalities in the NFL despite being a punter.

His dance moves on the field, electric punts, and charisma made watching punts fun, and after spending one season with the Denver Broncos in 2018 and time in the XFL/UFL, King has officially announced his retirement, but in a unique way.

Raiders’ Marquette King Announces Retirement in A Unique Way

King, who was a Second-team All-Pro in 2016 and led the NFL in punt yards in 2014, posted a YouTube video announcing his retirement, accompanied by an original song.

It looks like he’s decided to pursue a career in music with over 4,00o monthly listeners on Spotify as of February 10th, with his No. 1 song Sweat Tea at a little under one million streams on Spotify.

King was always a pleasure to watch back during the 2010s era, and he posted a retirement message on his X account.

I’ve battled to break back into the NFL, but if the league’s gatekeepers want to block me out, I’ll shut that door myself, because the ultimate goal was to make it back into the NFL. I don’t beg and This is me calling it on my terms. I’m thankful for the opportunity to have played in the NFL shout out to the Raiders and beyond, the XFL, and the UFL. It is what it is. Thanks for all the love, I appreciate every last one of my fans. This track speaks louder than any league ever could I am officially retiring from this and I’ll leave this here.”

Another Former Raider Could Make a Return

While King announced his retirement from the NFL, another former Raider could look to make a return.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, former Raiders QB Derek Carr could unretire “for the right situation and coaching staff.”

From the Raiders’ perspective, bringing him back would likely be as a coach and not a player. With Klint Kubiak needing a quarterbacks coach, Carr could be an intriguing option.

In an episode of his Home Grown podcast, Carr went into detail on his thoughts on Kubiak.

“Klint Kubak has a scheme that they believe in that they are running no matter what. And here it comes in, this culture and this scheme, that this is who we are. It is so abundantly clear who you are as an offense when you’re in a room with him. You know the standard. You know exactly what’s asked of you. And if you’re not doing it, he tells you, and then you’re gone. He’s just honest.”

Kubiak hasn’t made any comments on potential coaches he’s looking to hire, but Carr could find his way back to Las Vegas one way or another.
