The Las Vegas Raiders love undrafted rookies, but it’s always going to be difficult for multiple of them to make the final roster. Former BYU safety Tanner Wall showed some promise early in training camp, but that didn’t save him from getting cut recently.
It can sometimes be a hard road for an undrafted rookie who gets cut by the team that initially signed them, but Wall was fortunately able to find a landing spot quickly. The Miami Dolphins announced that they have signed Wall to a contract.
We have also waived quarterback Mark Gronowski and waived/injured safety Omar Brown.
Wall is already 26 years old, which is definitely older for a rookie. He started his tenure at BYU as a wide receiver before transitioning to safety.
He’s not overly athletic, so his ceiling is likely that of a consistent special teams contributor. However, those players can still be very valuable to a team. Wall will have some catching up to do in Miami, but he’s still got a chance to be on a roster this season.
Raiders DBs Playing Well in Camp
The Raiders offense sounds like it may still be a work in progress, but the defense could surprise people in 2026. The secondary was a bit of a question mark because it’s so young, but they’ve looked very good in training camp. During Friday’s practice, they caught two interceptions.
Head coach Klint Kubiak praises the work the defensive backs have been doing.
“[Pass game coordinator] Joe Woods and [safeties coach] Matt [Robinson] are doing a great job with our DBs,” Kubiak told reporters after practice. “We have a lot of guys making plays on the ball right now. It’s a very competitive room.”
Rookie Hezekiah Masses had one of the interceptions and has continued an impressive training camp. He could fight for real playing time this season.
“I see a young man that continues to compete,” Kubiak said of Masses. “He’s the same guy that he was in the spring. I see a competitive guy. I like where he’s heading. He’s putting a lot of pressure on that first group of corners.”
Treydan Stukes Excited About Defense
The Raiders offense has potential, and a good defense would help take too much pressure off of that side of the ball. Second-round pick Treydan Stukes is still trying to earn more reps with the first team and is starting to get more chances. He’s excited about what the defense could be.
“I’m building trust with my teammates and the coaching staff,” Stukes said. “It’s getting more exciting. The defense is starting to click a little bit more as we keep going. I’m super excited.”
As a second-round pick, the hope is that Stukes can be an impact player in Year 1, but he has to prove that he deserves a role on the defense. Kubiak explained what he likes about his game thus far.
“I like how hard he plays on special teams,” Kubiak said. “He’s a guy that’s gonna challenge for spots in many places on defense and on teams. But I like that he’s a team-first guy, and that shows up in the way he plays teams.”
