NFL pundits continue to suggest Miami Dolphins running back De'Von Achane as a potential trade target despite the team strongly stating he's not available.

It’s difficult to stop the NFL rumor mill. Miami Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan may be learning that with running back De’Von Achane this offseason.

Despite telling reporters numerous times this offseason Achane is not a trade candidate, pundits continue to float the running back in trade proposals.

The latest came from Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton on Thursday. Moton named five top landing spots for the running back via trade.

Moton’s top five landing sports were the Los Angeles Chargers, New York Giants, Seattle Seahawks, Tennessee Titans and Washington Commanders.

Those potential trade connections came the same day ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Achane showed up to the Dolphins facility.

“Miami running back De’Von Achane, who was not present for the start of the team’s voluntary off-season workout program last week, was spotted in the Dolphins’ training facility today, per sources,” wrote Schefter on X. “It is believed that Achane showed up as a sign of good faith as the two sides continue discussing a contract extension, per source.”

Sullivan told reporters Wednesday the running back is “not available for trade. The general manager also added contract negotiations with Achane are progressing.

“Things are going good. We’ve had some positive conversations over the last couple days. Trending in the right direction,” said Sullivan.

Will Dolphins Extend RB De’Von Achane on New Contract?

GettyNFL pundits continue to suggest Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane as a potential trade target despite the team strongly stating he’s not available.

There’s two main reasons why Achane trade rumors have persisted throughout the past several weeks.

The Dolphins are clearly going for a fresh start with their roster under Sullivan and new head coach Jeff Hafley. The team released quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and wide receiver Tyreek Hill this offseason. The Dolphins also traded fellow receiver Jaylen Waddle.

Achane has popped up in trade proposals since the Waddle move on March 17.

The running back also needs a new contract. He is entering the fourth and final year of his rookie deal this fall. That’s why pundits have argued the Dolphins could trade Achane for additional draft capital instead of extending the running back a new deal.

Achane could be expensive to re-sign, but he should also have trade value if the Dolphins pursued that route. The 24-year-old led the NFL with a 5.7 yards per carry average last season.

He ran for 1,350 rushing yards with eight touchdowns while gaining 1,838 yards from scrimmage. Achane had 1,499 yards from scrimmage during 2024 as well.

In 44 career NFL games, he’s averaged 5.6 yards per carry.

Why Dolphins-Achane Trade Appears to be a Pipedream

The other factor that sparked Achane trade rumors this month was Achane not at the beginning of Dolphins voluntary workouts. Hafley told reporters the running back failed to show up on April 7.

During his press conference, Hafley called it part of the NFL business and didn’t do much to help extinguish any potential trade rumors.

But Sullivan has stressed throughout the offseason that the team isn’t interested in trading Achane. At the NFL’s annual league meetings, Sullivan referred to the running back as one of the team’s “pillars.”

However, it doesn’t appear anything Sullivan says will extinguish Achane trade rumors. The only thing that will do that is a new contract for the running back.
