Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill has been in headlines since his arrival with the Dolphins prior to the 2022 season. For Miami, the productivity from the outspoken wide receiver has been worth it. He delivered two All-Pro seasons and the two best seasons by a wide receiver in franchise history. However, his future is a bit murky now.
The personnel who hired and coached Hill in Miami have been fired and replaced with men who have no prior relationship to the wide receiver. In his introductory press conference, new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan said the team will now have a “draft, develop and re-sign our own” model. Previous general manager Chris Grier was prone to blockbuster acquisitions in free agency or in the trade market, like Hill was. Those days seem to be coming to an end, and they may represent the end of Hill’s time in Miami as well.
Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill Sends Message
Earlier this week, Tyreek Hill made news as he reacted to former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel being hired as the new Chargers offensive coordinator. His message sparked speculation about a possible reunion with McDaniel in Los Angeles. Well, that reaction did not stop Hill from going on social media once again.
The Chiefs brought back offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, who was Hill’s offensive coordinator for his final four years with the Chiefs. Hill took to X and posted, “EB to the chiefs hm.” Of course, EB refers to Eric Bieniemy.
His post quickly sparked speculation about a possible Chiefs return with Pro Football Network writer Matt Infante replying to Hill asking, “Getting the band back together hm?” Under Bieniemy, Hill made the Pro Bowl in four consecutive seasons and earned two first-team All-Pro selections. Additionally, he won a Super Bowl with the Chiefs in 2019, and lost one in 2020.
Hill’s former teammate and current Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce also reacted to the news. He said, “I can’t wait to see him back in the building, man. He’s one of my favorite coaches of all-time, one of my favorite people of all time.”
Tyreek Hill’s Future
For now, all of the above is mere speculation as Hill is still under contract with the Miami Dolphins. However, the expectation is the Dolphins will cut ties with Hill as he carries a $51 million cap hit in 2026. He currently has the highest cap hit for any wide receiver in the NFL. Following a dislocated knee injury in the 2025 season, Hill’s contract will have to be re-structured.
ESPN analyst Marcel Louis-Jacques said, “there’s no way Hill returns on his current deal — if at all.” Additionally, Miami Herald writer Barry Jackson said Tyreek Hill is “expected to be a cap casualty.” If the Dolphins released Hill as a post-June 1 designation, Miami would gain $35 million in cap savings while only having $15.8 million in dead money. Hill currently has no guaranteed money remaining on his contract.
Despite still being under contract, Hill seems to already be eyeing his next destination. Whether that’s a reunion with the Chiefs who turned him into a star, or the Chargers with the offensive coordinator who oversaw his two best statistical seasons remains to be seen.
