NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported the Miami Dolphins are releasing former All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill.

The Tyreek Hill era with the Miami Dolphins is finished.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported the Dolphins are releasing Hill on Monday. The move is one of several releases Miami is making a few weeks prior to the start of 2026 NFL free agency.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Hill’s release will save the Dolphins $22.8 million in cap space toward the 2026 campaign.

Hill suffered a torn ACL and dislocated knee during the 2025 NFL season. For that reason, there’s some uncertainty whether he will be able to play next season.

But if he does, it won’t be for the Dolphins.

Hill was a first-team All-Pro wideout during his first two Miami seasons in 2022 and 2023. But he’s battled various injuries over the past pair of campaigns.

Since leading the NFL with 1,799 receiving yards during 2023, Hill has 1,224 receiving yards in the past 21 games.

Hill will end his Dolphins tenure with 340 receptions, 4,733 receiving yards and 27 touchdowns in 54 games.

Dolphins Release WR Tyreek Hill: Report

Hill will leave Miami with a somewhat complicated legacy.

He was arguably the best wideout in the league during 2022 and 2023. Hill particularly shined during 2023 when he posted 119 receptions, 1,799 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns.

Early in that campaign, there was talk about the potential of Hill reaching 2,000 yards.

But despite playing in all 17 games during 2024, Hill didn’t perform nearly as well while dealing with a wrist ailment. The Dolphins also missed quarterback Tua Tagovailoa for six games that season.

At the conclusion of the 2024 campaign, Hill famously told reporters “I’m out” after Week 18. The remark caused a huge outburst in the media and started several rounds of trade rumors.

Hill and the Dolphins patched up their relationship last offseason. But the 2025 season went south almost immediately for Hill and the team.

The veteran wideout suffered his injury during Week 4. Meanwhile, the Dolphins started 1-6.

Miami rebounded to get back into the playoff hunt in mid-December. But the Dolphins benched Tagovailoa for the final three games. At the end of the season, Miami also fired head coach Mike McDaniel.

Clearly, the Dolphins are going for a fresh start under new head coach Jeff Hafley. A lot of the team’s stars who led them to back-to-back postseason appearances in 2022 and 2023 will not be back.

Dolphins Make Other Cuts Along With Hill: Report

Hill wasn’t the only player the Dolphins released to begin the third week of February.

A couple hours before the Hill news, NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported Miami released two-time Pro Bowl edge rusher Bradley Chubb. Then at about the same time as the Hill news, insiders added the Dolphins cut fellow receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikhine and guard James Daniels.

Miami signed Daniels to a three-year, $24 million contract just last year. But Daniels barely played because of a season-ending injury he sustained during Week 1.

Like with Hill, “fresh start” is the optimal term for the Dolphins with the other roster cuts.

“The cap space created Monday puts Miami, which 24 hours ago was an estimated $17.4 million over the cap, in better position to go after a few pieces in free agency to fill the gaps. The Dolphins also hold the No. 11 overall pick in April’s draft,” wrote NFL.com’s Bobby Kownack.

“Gone are several familiar faces from the Mike McDaniel era, soon to be replaced with some new blood in Year 1 of the Hafley-Sullivan regime.”
