The Minnesota Vikings have made their biggest move of the night, trading a Pro Bowl edge to the Philadelphia Eagles.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Vikings have sent Jonathan Greenard to the Eagles for No. 98 in the 2026 NFL Draft and a third-round pick in the 2027 draft. He also adds that Philadelphia has already signed Greenard to a four-year, $100 million extension.
Minnesota Vikings Move on from Star Edge Rusher Jonathan Greenard
After the Vikings were unable to come to a new contract agreement with Greenard, the Vikings have moved on, shipping him off to Philly. After a down 2025 season with just three sacks, Greenard was looking to bounce on back in 2026 with a new deal. But with Minnesota’s limited cap space, a deal just wasn’t in the cards.
Dallas Turner will now be featured in a much bigger role for Minnesota while the Eagles finally get their big time pass rusher. Meanwhile for the Vikings, they’ll save about $35 million over the next two seasons by trading Greenard.
What Does the addition of Second-Round Pick Jake Golday Mean for Minnesota?
Minnesota selected Cincinnati linebacker Jake Golday with the No. 51 pick, and with Greenard’s departure, it makes plenty of sense. Golday had 3.5 sacks and four tackles for loss last year with the Bearcats, and will figure to help ease the burden of losing Greenard.
NFL Draft analyst Todd McShay compared him to a successful player from a division rival.
“Golday has the traits to develop into a starter early in his career and can be utilized in rush packages and on special teams,” wrote McShay. “He’s not as instinctive or fluid as 2023 first-round pick Jack Campbell, but they have similar frames and posted similar and testing numbers at the combine.”
“He lined up in the box 320 times, over the slot 251 times, and at edge 122 times in 2025, according to PFF.”
