New GM Nolan Teasley will decide on a QB this summer.

Minnesota Vikings new general manager Nolan Teasley was brief in his introductory press conference, but he made clear what his top goal will be from day one.

The Vikings made Teasley their GM after a wide search that included 10 potential candidates after firing the former general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah. Teasley inherits a strong roster, but will have one huge decision to make at quarterback, and it’s one that he knows needs to be right.

“The quarterback and the head coach are the two most important people in the building,” said Teasley. “We’re going to build our operation and our foundation around supporting them so that they can be the best version of themselves at all times.”

Both Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy will be battling all summer long for the starting role, but Teasley will lean heavily on his staff while making a final call on the job.

“In terms of managing, we’re gonna rely on the coaching staff. I think the goal was to build a deep and competitive quarterback room, and I think that was executed.”

Nolan Teasley Will Have an Important Quarterback Decision Looming

Teasley was a member of the Seattle Seahawks front office since 2013, and is fresh off a Super Bowl win in 2026. Minnesota was clear from the start that they were looking for a proven evaluator, and found exactly that in Teasley, who will need every bit of those skills to get the Vikings back on track.

“It was always going to take a special opportunity to leave a special place in Seattle,” he continued. “As I progressed through this process, it became very clear that the Minnesota Vikings were just that.”

Murray is widely expected to win the starting job, but with a new general manager in place, everything is now on the table. But with reports that Murray is already a step ahead, the decision may be an easy one.

The J.J. McCarthy Trade Rumors Aren’t Going Away

Meanwhile, off the field, the McCarthy trade rumors are in full swing. But despite his potential unrest, Alec Lewis of the Athletic said that there is nothing happening on that front right now.

“My conversations with people internally have not been about trade. They have not been about those comments,” Lewis said. “They have been about wanting to maximize every single day in the field, and making sure that happens. The chips will fall how the chips will fall.”

While the Vikings insist a true competition is in progress for the job, it’s also been no secret that Murray appears to be the early favorite. Teasley will come in with fresh eyes on the situation, but head coach Kevin O’Connell will still have a voice in those final decisions.

After a tough debut season as the starter, Minnesota brought in Murray to compete with McCarthy for the role. Despite being a top-ten pick, it seems more and more likely that his time in Minnesota could already be done if Murray does eventually earn the nod.
