The New York Giants are fresh off a big preseason victory over the Miami Dolphins, as they picked up a 26-3 victory over them on Saturday afternoon. Now, the Giants will turn their attention to their preseason finale, which will see them square off against their crosstown rival, the New York Jets.
As New York inches closer to the start of the regular season, it is keeping close tabs on a handful of injury situations that its key players are dealing with. One of the guys in that group is rookie offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa, who picked up a stinger recently that has caused him to miss some time. In the wake of the Giants’ win over the Dolphins, head coach John Harbaugh provided a big update on Mauigoa’s status.
Francis Mauigoa Set to Return to Practice for the Giants
Armed with a pair of top-10 picks in the 2026 NFL Draft, the Giants were poised to bring a pair of immediate contributors to town for this upcoming campaign. After taking linebacker Arvell Reese with the No. 5 overall pick, New York decided to shore up its offensive line by taking Mauigoa, who starred for the Miami Hurricanes during his time in college.
A versatile offensive lineman, Mauigoa has slotted in at right guard so far for the Giants throughout training camp. After playing at right tackle in college, evaluators believed that Mauigoa could potentially make the move to left tackle if needed, but with Andrew Thomas in place, New York is opting to use him at right guard for the time being.
Mauigoa has been forced to miss some time, though, after suffering a stinger, and while it’s not a long-term injury, the Giants would like to get him back on the field sooner rather than later. The team is obviously going to proceed with caution, but Harbaugh revealed that, if all goes according to plan, Mauigoa will get back on the practice field this week.
“John Harbaugh said rookie OL Francis Mauigoa (stinger) is expected to be back in practice this week,” Dan Salomone of the team’s official website shared in a post on X.
Giants Will Love Francis Mauigoa Injury Update

The Giants have made it a priority to protect Dart under center moving forward, and Mauigoa will play a big part in that plan, no matter which position he lines up at. The more action Mauigoa can get on the field before the season, the better off he will be, so while Harbaugh and the coaching staff don’t want to rush him back, there is an incentive for him to return to practice.
Whether or not starters will play in the preseason finale is unknown, but even if they do, it’d be a surprise to see Mauigoa take the field alongside his teammates. As long as he can play in Week 1, though, New York won’t mind at all. Look for Mauigoa to get himself back on the field at some point this week, with the aim being to have him healthy for the start of the regular season.
