The New York Giants will officially have a new starting quarterback for Week 4, and they’re hoping it will turn their 0-3 record around. The team fell to the Kansas City Chiefs at home last weekend, and now, Brian Daboll and company are going into Hail Mary mode and starting rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart.
Dart was the team’s 25th-overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft, and they traded up to get him. His numbers were strong in the preseason, so the Giants are hoping that translates to some good numbers come Sunday. The team is scheduled to play the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, September 28, at home, and this will be Dart’s first time starting in the NFL during the regular season.
For their first three games of the season, of course, the Giants were rolling with veteran quarterback Russell Wilson as their starter, and they also have Jameis Winston as a backup. Now that Wilson isn’t starting, there’s been some buzz about whether the Giants will trade him. So, will Wilson already end up with a different franchise?
New York Giants Make Russell Wilson Decision: Report
Whether or not Wilson will get traded is at the top of may people’s minds right now. On Saturday, September 27, Dianna Russini of the Athletic sent out a post on X putting the rumors to rest.
I’m told that the Giants and Falcons have no intention right now of moving veteran backups Russell Wilson and Kirk Cousins,” she stated, also linking to her article about it.
So, it appears Wilson will be in the Big Apple a bit longer, and the Falcons will be hanging onto Cousins a bit longer, too. Time will tell how this deal shakes out, but for now, hopefully Dart can learn from Wilson’s years of experience and that Wilson can be something of a mentor to him as he grows on the field.
Jaxson Dart Talks Being the New York Giants’ Quarterback
Dart spoke with reporters this week for the first time since being named Q1 for the Giants. He sounded excited for the opportunity and said that the first people he shared the news with were his parents, and that they were happy for the news, too. His dad was actually in town when he found out about being pushed up to starting quarterback position, which probably made it even sweeter.
“I’m just excited to get out there on the field and try to execute this offense to the best of my ability,” he said, adding that “there’s just a bunch of, you know, real professionals around.”
Dart continued, stating, “It’s been really appreciated, and even for Russ, he’s just somebody that I really look up to and he’s handled it great. So, just the interactions between us since. It just says a lot about him as a person.”
Wilson hasn’t said anything negative about the decision publicly so far, which is a classy look on his part. Now, Giants fans will see what Dart has to offer up against Jim Harbaugh and the Chargers.
