Heads are about to roll on 1 Jets Drive, and it won’t be Aaron Glenn’s.
Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic warned that Glenn isn’t done firing coaches from his staff.
“I think they are not done firing guys. I would be surprised if [quarterbacks coach] Charles London returned,” Rosenblatt said on “Jets Final Drive.” He said he’d be “surprised” if linebackers coach Aaron Curry returned.
Rosenblatt also said he has his “eye on” defensive line coach Eric Washington. NFL Insider Connor Hughes of SNY revealed that “players had issues” with Washington.
“I’ll just tell you, don’t round about it, players had issues with him,” Hughes reiterated.
“I think there is going to be a pretty decent amount of changes, and you might see some additions on both sides of the ball in terms of veteran voices to bring in here,” Rosenblatt revealed.
Head Coach Aaron Glenn Breaks Silence on Looming Staff Changes
Head coach Aaron Glenn was noncommittal when asked about potential staff changes on Tuesday, January 6.
“I can’t answer that just yet. Again, we are still going through that process. So that is a hard question to answer,” Glenn responded.
For context, general manager Darren Mougey explained their schedule this week for in-house evaluation in his opening statement.
Long story short, Glenn and Mougey’s evaluation of the staff and their meetings were taking place after their season-ending presser. So Glenn couldn’t comment on any potential firings until he went through those meetings.
Jets Plan on Adding to the Staff
While Glenn wasn’t ready to talk about potential firings, he was more open to talking about potential additions.
“I think this business you are always looking to add good people. That can be your roster [or] your staff. I’m sure Moug would say the same thing with personnel, you are always looking to add good people. Whoever you can add that will add value to your organization, man, you always look at that,” Glenn said.
“I think it’s very clear that additional staff changes are going to be coming. I think they’re going to shake up the offensive staff,” Hughes revealed.
Update on OC Tanner Engstrand’s Job Security
“I don’t know if Tanner Engstrand is going to be gone. Doubt that, but I think they will probably add in a veteran or somebody of that nature, but who knows, maybe Woody [Johnson] puts forth and says Hey, we want complete and total changes and Tanner is out as well, but I don’t necessarily think that is the case,” Hughes explained on “Jets Final Drive.” “I think you will see people added there.”
ESPN NFL Insider Jeremy Fowler seemingly came to the same conclusion.
“Status quo on the Jets’ coaching staff as of Tuesday night. The team is wrapping up exit meetings, and the coaches are expected to meet mid-to-late week. My early sense is that the Jets keep offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand, but that staff changes on offense could be on the way. But anything feels possible after a truly horrific passing game performance,” Fowler wrote.
