The Baltimore Ravens stunned the NFL with their firing of legendary coach John Harbaugh on Tuesday, January 6.

There was immediately a buzz on social media from a mix of media personalities and fans urging the New York Jets to fire Aaron Glenn and replace him with Harbaugh.

That group included ESPN’s Mike Greenberg, who posted on social media, “I know it won’t happen, and he will have more attractive options anyway, but the Jets should ABSOLUTELY see if Harbaugh would become their coach. They won’t, but they should.”

Despite all of that, several team insiders strongly addressed that speculation.

“I do not expect the Jets to be one of those teams contacting Harbaugh. They’re committed to Aaron Glenn for 2026,” Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic wrote.

“This shouldn’t need to be said, but the Jets are committed to Aaron Glenn. They trust in the vision he and Darren Mougey have, and are ready for 2026,” NFL Insider Connor Hughes of SNY shared on social media.

NFL Teams Without Coaching Openings Called Harbaugh: Report

When the Ravens fired Harbaugh, that sparked hope among the fan base. Steam started to really pick up after an intriguing update from league insiders.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter said, “In the first 45 minutes after John Harbaugh was fired this afternoon, his agent Bryan Harlan said he received calls from seven NFL teams expressing interest in his client. There currently are seven NFL head coach openings, including Baltimore’s.”

In other words, teams that don’t currently have head coach openings reached out to Harbaugh’s agent in the aftermath of the Ravens situation.

Schefter added that, “At least one [team] – and likely more” in that category will attempt to pursue Harbaugh.

NFL Insider Dianna Russini also confirmed the news, saying, “John Harbaugh has interest from most teams with head coaching vacancies, but notably, I’m told calls are also coming in from a few teams that currently have a head coach in place. Lots of discussions going down tonight. Harbaugh will be at the top of many teams’ wishlists.”

Jets Are Making Right Choice Even if It’s Unpopular

The Jets are sticking with their guy. That is the prudent decision.

Who wouldn’t want Harbaugh? He has a Super Bowl ring on his finger, has an outstanding winning percentage (.614), and is one of the most recognizable coaches in the sport.

However, everyone is going to want Harbaugh. How does the Jets HC gig compare to every other team in the league?

Secondly, everyone seems to be skipping over this question, but what the hell happened in Baltimore? Why are the Ravens moving on?

“Now, as far as why John Harbaugh is out, among the reasons, it is not just that they didn’t go far enough in the playoffs [they didn’t even make the postseason], my understanding after talking to several sources involved is that simply Harbaugh lost the locker room. At the end, players simply had doubts about whether or not they wanted to play for him as their head coach. The opinions of players were valued here; it was listened to, it went to all levels, and it’s not just Lamar Jackson. It started, it sounded like to me, with Harbaugh and Lamar Jackson not being on the same page, and it continued throughout the locker room. Maybe not 100% but more than enough for the Baltimore Ravens to say among the reasons to move on, this was a big one,” NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport explained on “The Insiders.”

Yikes.
