The New York Jets’ worst fears were realized on Wednesday, September 3.
NFL Insider Jordan Schultz confirmed that Alijah Vera-Tucker “will miss the entire 2025 season with a triceps injury that requires surgery.”
“Vera-Tucker was just voted a captain and was poised for a big year protecting Justin Fields. A brutal blow for New York,” Shultz added.
Jets Lose a Key Cog on the Offensive Line
Vera-Tucker, 26, was heading into the final year of his rookie contract. He is owed a fully guaranteed $15.3 million in 2025 via the fifth-year option.
The former USC product is scheduled to be a free agent in 2026.
This is the third season-ending injury that AVT has suffered through the first five years of his NFL career.

This is now the second time Jets G Alijah Vera-Tucker has suffered a triceps injury in his NFL career. He also went down with the same season-ending injury back in 2022, but that was on the opposite arm to his latest tricep injury,” ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter revealed on X previously Twitter.
Alijah Vera-Tucker finally got healthy last year and returned to form. Was in line for a major payday this offseason if he stayed healthy again. Devastating injury for AVT and a major blow to the #Jets’ short- and long-term OL situation. Just awful man,” The Jet Press posted.
AVT’s Jets Tenure Could Very Well Be Over
Now that Vera-Tucker is set to miss the entire season, his future is very much in question.
ESPN radio host Jake Asman joined me on “The Manchild Show with Boy Green Digital” and openly wondered if the team would even want Vera-Tucker back after this latest injury.
“Is there like any path where they would even want him back, even like on a one-year type of deal to prove he could still be a really good player? I think if you’re the Jets, it is the third time now in his career that he has missed the season. I don’t even know if you want him back on a one-year deal. You might be saying, let’s try to find our long-term solution at that spot because we can’t trust him to be out there,” Asman told me on the podcast.
One Possible Solution for the Jets
Recently retired All-Pro Brandon Scherff could make some sense.
He hung up his cleats in the middle of August. Throughout Scherff’s career, he has exclusively played right guard. AVT played right guard.
That potential addition would allow the Jets‘ offensive line to stay intact instead of shuffling around to make up for the void.
