The New York Jets have made a flurry of roster moves following their preseason win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Jets announced on social media that they have waived running back Sam Scott, pass rusher Nate Voorhis, and parted ways with wide receiver Caullin Lacy with an injury designation.
After creating those roster spots, the Jets signed pass rusher Anthony Dunn, running back Dominic Richardson, and defensive back Tanner Wall in a series of corresponding moves.
Information on the New Players the Jets Added
“Dunn, 6-4, 252, played 25 games at Toledo in 2024-25 and had 57 tackles, 10 TFL and 6 sacks. He went undrafted, signed with the Kansas City Chiefs in April and was released last week. Dunn began his collegiate trek at Florida A&M and was named First-Team All-SWAC in 2023,” Jets senior reporter Eric Allen wrote in a press release.
The Jets swapped out one pass rusher for another. They did the same thing at running back.
“Richardson , 6-0, 210, was an undrafted free agent who signed with the Dallas Cowboys in April and most recently spent time with the Tennessee Titans. Richardson played last season at Tulsa and became the 23rd player in school history to rush for 1,000 yards in a season and the first since 2021, finishing with 1,065 rushing yards,” Allen wrote.
The Jets are dealing with an array of injuries in the backfield. Breece Hall is dealing with a groin issue that’ll knock him out for the rest of the preseason. Isaiah Davis has a knee problem and will also miss the preseason. The Jets need bodies to help get them through the last leg of training camp. Both players are expected to return by the season opener.
However, there is one move they made that isn’t a direct swap. They let Lacy go, a wide receiver, and replaced him with a safety.
“Wall, 6-1, 205, played in 45 games at BYU from 2021-26 and registered 147 tackles (83 solo), 7 INTs and 8 PDs. An undrafted free agent, he signed with the Las Vegas Raiders and spent part of the offseason program and training camp with the Silver & Black before signing with the Dolphins on Aug. 7. He was waived by Miami on Aug. 17,” Allen explained.
Rubber Is Meeting the Road
Man, time flies. The Jets are 66% of the way through the preseason. There is one last contest on the docket. On Friday, August 28, the Jets will host their cross-town rivals, the New York Giants.
On Sunday, August 30, the Jets and the other 31 NFL teams must trim their team down to a final 53-man roster.
Players are running out of time to state their case to make the team. There are only a handful of training camp practice dates and a final preseason game to prove themselves.
Then the Jets will enjoy a bye week, and then the next week is officially the Tennessee Titans game prep. There aren’t many starting grabs left to be decided, but there is a subsection of spots still available at the backend of the roster. The next week will decide who will stay and who will go.
