The New York Jets are bringing back a familiar face.

Gang Green announced on social media that they have signed defensive lineman Fatorma Mulbah to the practice squad.

Jets editorial contributor Susanna Weir posted the full backstory in a press release: “Mulbah (6-4, 306) originally signed with the Jets as an undrafted free agent in May. The West Virginia product spent the summer with the Green & White, appearing in all 3 preseason games. He was waived by the team in August. Mulbah played in 26 games with the Mountaineers, recording 75 total tackles and 7.5 TFLs. He began his collegiate career at Penn State, where he played in 18 games across 2 seasons.”

Extra Insurance for New Jets Injury

Head coach Aaron Glenn provided a laundry list of injuries that the Jets are dealing with on Monday, October 20.

One of those is a “mild” knee sprain for defensive tackle Jay Tufele.

Tufele, 26, was a preseason darling for the Jets, bursting on the scene. He hasn’t made that same impact during the regular season. Tufele has appeared in five of the seven games so far this season and has participated in 28% of the defensive snaps.

With him potentially set to miss time, the Jets have added some insurance at defensive tackle. The green and white released Leonard Taylor III last week, and he quickly found a new home with the New England Patriots.

The only other defensive tackle the Jets have on their practice squad is undrafted free agent Payton Page.

No Update on Garrett Wilson, His Jets Return Likely Delayed

“I know the questions about Garrett [Wilson] and I’ll have more information as far as Garrett going into practice this week,” Coach Glenn explained.

Wilson hurt his knee at the end of the Week 6 contest versus the Denver Broncos. He missed the entire week of practice leading into the Carolina Panthers game. Wilson was officially designated as “doubtful” and was ruled out 90 minutes before kickoff on the inactive list.

“Oh man, I hope that he plays, you know? But I understand how these injuries are, and that’s any player that we have that has injuries. We want all of those guys playing, but listen, I’m not a doctor. I listen to the docs and they give me the best advice that he needs and for me to have so we can go forward,” Coach Glenn said.

With how the Jets handled Wilson’s injury it would indicate that he was close to playing in Week 7. He wasn’t immediately ruled out at the beginning of the week and seemingly had a chance. While that door is open again this week against the Cincinnati Bengals, it could go the other way.

The Jets are the only winless team in football at 0-7. If Wilson isn’t 100%, it would behoove the team to take their time with his recovery. If they hold him out one more week, it’ll give him the benefit of nearly a full month off between football games.

The Jets-Broncos game was on October 12. If the Jets hold Wilson out through the bye week, he could return on Sunday, November 9, versus the Cleveland Browns. That would give him time to fully recover from his injury and attempt to prevent a reinjury by returning too soon.
