The New York Jets‘ quarterback situation is appearing murky at best heading into the 2026 offseason.
With Dante Moore heading back to Oregon for another year at school, there isn’t another clear-cut option for the Jets to look at in terms of quarterback at the No. 2 overall pick.
Instead, they’ll likely be going the veteran route, hoping that a free agent signing or trade target will provide better play under center than Justin Fields did in 2025.
But what can the Jets do to put whatever quarterback they find in the best possible position to succeed?
How about trading for a top receiving option that could almost fool-proof an offense featuring Garrett Wilson and an All-Pro player?
Jets Trade Proposal Lands Bengals’ Ja’Marr Chase
In a trade idea written up by Sportsnaut’s Jason Burgos, the New York Jets acquire Cincinnati Bengals all-world receiver Ja’Marr Chase.
New York Jets receive: Ja’Marr Chase
Cincinnati Bengals receive: 2026 No. 2 overall, 2027 first round pick, 2027 fourth round pick
“The Bengals need to make a major change this offseason to move money so that so much of it isn’t invested in their QB and two starting wide receivers. That might open the door for the NY Jets to jump in and get Ja’Marr Chase. A 25-year-old receiver who is probably the best on the planet,” wrote Burgos.
“In a trade, they would need to part with the No. 2 pick, their first in 2027, and a day-three selection. They hold on to their pick at 16 to improve the defense and can then target a veteran like (Kyler) Murray with future draft assets. Murray, throwing to Chase and Wilson next season, would have a lot of potential.”
With both Chase and Wilson lining up at wide receiver, it almost doesn’t matter what quarterback is under center for New York next season.
Both players are so dangerous that it would be similar to what the Bengals have now with both Chase and Tee Higgins.
With Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey beginning to feel the heat turn up on their job security, a desperate move like this would not be off the table to ensure success in 2026.
Would the Bengals Part With Ja’Marr Chase?
In all likelihood, as long as Joe Burrow is the quarterback of the Cincinnati Bengals, Chase isn’t going anywhere.
But, as Burgos pointed out, the Bengals may be searching for any avenue to cut their payroll this offseason so they can upgrade their league-worst defense.
Add in the fact that Chase could ask for a change of scenery, and anything is possible.
The former LSU star was captured playing the video game ARC Raiders with famous Twitch streamer “The Burnt Peanut” earlier in the week.
He did not sound like a guy happy to be a Bengal.
The streamer asked Chase if he played for a good team.
Chase responded, “Uh, no. We wasn’t so good this year.”
If there’s even an inkling that the former No. 5 overall pick has interest in playing anywhere other than Cincinnati, the New York Jets should be all over it.
