The Philadelphia Eagles are nearing the assumed date for a possible A.J. Brown trade. With Brown’s frustrations with the Eagles offense known publicly, interest surged around the trade deadline last season. At the time, Philly was committed to keeping Brown in the fold as a key part of their offense.

Since the end of the season, however, things have changed. The Eagles have been much more willing to engage in trade talks this offseason, with the Patriots and Rams both being heavily linked to Brown back in March.

Though nothing’s happened yet, we are nearing an important date. June 1 marks the day Brown’s contract becomes much more manageable for the Eagles — essentially, they can trade him with far fewer financial penalties on the cap. Word is, the Eagles and Patriots already have a deal in place, and they’re just waiting for June 1 to hit. Now, one insider is reporting the compensation Philadelphia can expect in such a deal.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler on the Philadelphia Eagles’ Return in an A.J. Brown Trade

“My best guess is that they already agreed to something loosely,” Fowler said on 97.5 The Fanatic. “They can always tweak that or rework it, but they’re probably getting a [first-round pick], maybe a future [first], maybe it’s a 2028 [pick]. I don’t think they’ll get more than that, I think that would be the max at this point, I’d be surprised [if it’s more].”

“Philly once upon a time hoped for a [first] and a [second], I just don’t see that happening,” he continued. “Maybe they can get creative and swap some mid-to-late-round picks to sweeten it up. I haven’t heard anything else, as far as like if there’s a veteran [player] included. New England could part with one of their receivers, but I think Philly is pretty set there for the most part at that position. They addressed a lot of their glaring needs, so they don’t really need to include another player.”

“What I think is interesting is, is there another team that gets involved here? I have not found one — it was rumored that the Chiefs once upon a time [were interested]; I was told no. We know the Rams looked into it, I don’t know if it got to a serious level, but it definitely was an inquiry and that didn’t go anywhere. Would the Rams get back involved? I don’t know that they would. So if you can get other teams involved, perhaps Philadelphia can get more in a return. But right now it looks like there’s one team.”

The Eagles are Prepared for Life After A.J. Brown

The Eagles are clearly ready to move on from Brown. They actually traded up three spots in the first round — with the Cowboys, no less — to make sure they jumped ahead of the Steelers and drafted USC WR Makai Lemon. One of the best receivers in the class, Lemon is a dynamic presence who can handle a lot of responsibility in the offense.

Philadelphia also drafted Vanderbilt TE Eli Stowers in the second round. Ostensibly a tight end, Stowers mostly plays in the slot, and he’s a freakish athlete who’s a complete mismatch for linebackers and safeties. The Eagles are ready for a post-Brown offense.
