A.J. Brown’s name has been at the center of trade talks ever since the Eagles got eliminated earlier this month.

Now, Brown’s name has surfaced in discussions about a potential reunion with former head coach Mike Vrabel.

As Sports Illustrated noted, ESPN insider Adam Schefter openly connected the Eagles’ star receiver to New England, framing A.J. Brown as a legitimate trade candidate and pointing directly to head coach Mike Vrabel as a major reason why.

“I think he becomes a trade candidate here,” Schefter said on 97.5 The Fanatic.

There’s been enough noise around that with him wanting out. To me, I see him playing in New England next year under Mike Vrabel.”

A.J Brown’s Trade Valuation Complicates the Eagles’ Decision

While the buzz continues to grow, the projected trade return is where things get uncomfortable for Philadelphia.

CBS Sports’ Tyler Sullivan projected that Brown’s return might only be a third-round and fifth-round pick in a potential deal.

This is a stark contrast to the first-round pick Philadelphia surrendered to acquire him in 2022.

Sullivan cited Brown’s age, sideline outbursts, contract guarantees, and a perceived step back in 2025 as factors that could limit the market.

Whether that valuation is accurate or not, it underscores why the Eagles face a difficult call.

If that projection is even close to how the league views A.J. Brown’s value, it’s hard to see a scenario where the Eagles seriously engage.

A third- and fifth-round pick would be a massive step down from what Philadelphia originally paid and a poor return for one of the league’s top receivers, especially one under contract through 2029.

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman’s emphasis on how difficult it is to find “great players” signals that Philly isn’t eager to move an elite talent simply to quiet outside noise.

Unless the market shifts dramatically, the Eagles have little incentive to even pick up the phone.

Why the Vrabel Connection Keeps Coming Up

The Vrabel angle isn’t new, but it’s suddenly front and center again thanks to Schefter.

A.J. Brown played four seasons under Vrabel with the Titans, developing into an All-Pro and establishing himself as one of the league’s most physical receivers.

League sources believe the Patriots would aggressively pursue Brown if the Eagles make him available.

Tony Pauline reported that “multiple sources” expect New England to enter the market, believing Vrabel could “rein Brown in and get him back to All-Pro status.”

From a roster standpoint, the fit makes sense especially if the Patriots lose the Super Bowl.

As sizable underdogs, a loss to Seattle would likely push New England to pursue major upgrades to try and return to this stage.

The Patriots have advanced to this point largely on the strength of its defense, with the offense struggling throughout the playoffs.

Outside of Stefon Diggs, the Patriots lack a dominant receiver capable of taking over games.

Pairing A.J. Brown with Diggs would give quarterback Drake Maye one of the best one-two receiving punches in the NFL

New England has both the draft capital and cap space to explore a deal.

While the Patriots’ immediate focus remains the Super Bowl, league sources expect them to revisit the receiver market once the season ends.

If Brown becomes available, New England is positioned to be one of the first teams to get involved.
