The Dallas Cowboys can take from the Philadelphia Eagles — as evidenced by hiring Philly defensive backs coach Christian Parker as defensive coordinator.
The Eagles just can’t take from the Cowboys, apparently, and were denied a request to interview a key member of the Dallas coaching staff to fill their offensive coordinator opening.
“The Eagles requested to interview Cowboys OC Klayton Adams for their offensive coordinator job but Dallas blocked the request, per league sources,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler wrote on his official X account on Sunday. “Dallas finished second in total offense and values Adams.”
The Eagles have been left scrambling for an offensive coordinator after Kevin Patullo was fired following one season and Philadelphia missed out on its top targets for the role, including former Miami Dolphins head coach and Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel.
“The Cowboys blocked the Eagles’ request to interview offensive coordinator Klayton Adams for their OC position,” Yahoo! Sports wrote on X. “Dallas hired Philadelphia assistant Christian Parker as its new defensive coordinator earlier this week.”
Offense One Bright Spot for Cowboys in 2025
There were few expectations on theCowboys headed into 2025 other than that most of the experts believed they had little chance to be anything but terrible — especially after they traded away their best player in edge rusher Micah Parsons just one week before their regular season opener.
While the Cowboys finished 7-9-1 and missed the playoffs for the second consecutive season, their offense was one of the NFL’s best and kept them in most of their games.
The Cowboys did so wiith a first-year offensive coordinator in the 42-year-old Adams, who was hired by first year Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer after spending the last 2 seasons as the offensive line coach for the Cardinals.
Players like quarterback Dak Prescott, running back Javonte Williams, tight end Jake Ferguson and wide receiver George Pickens, all had the best seasons of their careers, with Pickens earning NFL All-Pro honors for the first time and Williams cracking 1,000 rushing yards for the first time in his career.
Cowboys Picked Adams Out of Talented Group
“(Adams) beats out other candidates such as current Cleveland Browns’ offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey, current Atlanta Falcons’ tight ends coach Kevin Koger and Detroit Lions’ running backs coach Scottie Montgomery, who all spoke with Dallas’ front office over the past few days,” Cowboys.com’s Patrik Walker wrote on January 31.
Adams, an All-WAC offensive lineman at Boise State in the early 2000s, spent the first 15 years of his coaching career on the college level before making the move to the NFL as assistant offensive line coach for the Indianapolis Colts in 2019.
“EAGLES FANS: They want to be like us!” Cowboys podcaster Dan Rogers wrote on X. “The Eagles have now requested interviews with Kellen Moore (hired) and Klayton Adams over the last two years. Either they want to be like us on offense, or they are trying to correct some other deficiency they don’t want to talk about.”
Roger is incorrect about Moore. He was the offensive coordinator with the Cowboys from 2019 to 2022 and spent 2023 as the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers before he came to the Eagles in 2024.
In one season in Philadelphia, Moore led the Eagles to a Super Bowl win and was hired as head coach of the New Orleans Saints.
