Ferguson secured all seven targets for 49 yards in the Cowboys' 20-15 win over the Giants on Thursday night. He also committed a fumble recovered by Dallas. Ferguson tied CeeDee Lamb for the team lead in receptions while checking in second to his teammate in both receiving yards and targets. The third-year tight end generated a combined 13-144-0 line on 18 targets over Weeks 3 and 4, further cementing that he's essentially developed into the team's No. 2 pass catcher behind Lamb, at least for the moment. Ferguson should be poised for another busy day when the Cowboys travel to take on the vaunted Steelers defense on Sunday, Oct. 6, a game in which the tight end's prowess in the short and intermediate passing windows might be especially relevant given the limited time Dak Prescott may often have.

Seven catches in win
Big performance in return
Ferguson recorded six receptions on 11 targets for 95 yards in Sunday's 28-25 loss to Baltimore. Ferguson returned from a one-game absence caused by a knee injury and immediately led the team in targets, receptions and yards. The majority of his production came in the final 16 minutes of game time as the Cowboys took to the air, highlighted by gains of 17 and 26 yards late in the third quarter. This was a unique game script, but Ferguson should remain a key figure in Dallas' offense and often command the second-most targets behind CeeDee Lamb.
Removed from injury report
Ferguson (knee) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Ravens, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. Ferguson was a full practice participant Friday, upgrading from limited the previous two days. He missed only one game after suffering an MCL sprain Week 1, giving QB Dak Prescott his full complement of pass catchers with WR CeeDee Lamb (ankle) also avoiding a Week 3 injury designation. Ferguson profiles as a mid-to-low-range fantasy starter at the production-lacking TE position even with some added risk of an in-game injury/setback.
Remains limited Thursday
Ferguson (knee) practiced in a limited fashion, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports. Ferguson has cobbled together back-to-back capped sessions to begin Week 3 prep as he seeks to miss just one game due to the MCL sprain and bone bruise that he sustained in his left knee in the Cowboys' season-opening win at Cleveland. Friday's injury report will unveil whether he enters the weekend with a designation for Sunday's contest against the Ravens.
Officially limited Wednesday
Ferguson (knee) was limited at practice Wednesday, Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. Ferguson emerged from Week 1 with an MCL sprain in his left knee, which didn't allow him to practice last week. A doubtful designation ultimately forecast his lack of availability this past Sunday against the Saints, but his ability to mix into drills to kick off Week 3 prep indicates he's making progress in his recovery. How Ferguson fares Thursday and Friday likely will be the determining factors in his chances to return to action Sunday versus the Ravens.
Returns to practice
Ferguson (knee) is participating in Wednesday's practice, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports. Ferguson is practicing in full pads Wednesday, per Saad Yousuf of The Athletic, an indication that he's indeed trending in the right direction to play Sunday versus the Ravens. The starting tight end was forced to sit out Week 2 due to a left MCL sprain and bone bruise. Wednesday's official injury report will reveal whether Ferguson is currently limited in practice or has managed to participate without restrictions.
Expected back Week 3
Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said Monday that Ferguson (knee) was "really close" to playing in Sunday's 44-19 loss to the Saints and that "the expectation is for him to be back" Week 3 against the Ravens, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports. Ferguson suffered an MCL sprain and bone bruise in his left knee Week 1, but it looks like those injuries will only force him to log a one-game absence. More information about Ferguson's recovery progress will arrive Wednesday, at the latest, when Dallas' first official injury report of Week 3 is released. Luke Schoonmaker looked solid while logging a spot start Week 2, catching all six of his targets for 43 yards, so if there are any lingering concerns about Ferguson's health whatsoever, the Cowboys should feel confident allowing him as much rest as is needed.
Not suiting up Sunday
Ferguson (knee) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Saints. Ferguson's absence for the Week 2 matchup comes as little surprise considering he was unable to log any practice activity Wednesday through Friday after suffering an MCL sprain and bone bruise in his left knee during the Cowboys' 33-17 win over the Browns this past Sunday. Luke Schoonmaker is likely to step in as the Cowboys' starting tight end Sunday, though he probably can't be counted on to take on as much involvement in the passing game as Ferguson usually handles after producing a modest 8-65-2 receiving line on 15 targets over 348 offensive snaps as a rookie last season. Ferguson will hope to get back on the practice field in some fashion during the upcoming week with the aim of returning to action next Sunday versus the Ravens.
Doubtful for Sunday
Ferguson (knee) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against New Orleans, Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football reports. Coach Mike McCarthy said Friday morning that Ferguson would miss another practice but could still play in Sunday's game if he returns for a light practice Saturday and looks comfortable working out. The Cowboys apparently consider it highly unlikely, setting up Luke Schoonmaker and undrafted rookie Brevyn Spann-Ford to fill in at tight end ahead of the 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff. Ferguson is recovering from an MCL sprain suffered in the Week 1 win over Cleveland, and while he said the pain subsided quickly, he may still be bothered by stiffness and/or swelling.
