The Philadelphia Eagles are in the market for an offensive coordinator, and their quarterback will be one of many parties coach Nick Sirianni accepts advice from in making that hire
Sirianni spelled out the process of choosing the replacement for recently demoted Kevin Patullo and explained why multiple figures inside the Eagles organization will decide who ultimately leads the offense in 2026.
Patullo took over for Kellen Moore in 2025, after Moore took the New Orleans Saints head coach position. Patullo’s offense struggled, scoring the 19th-most points per game (22,3), and his playcalling drove fans crazy, leading to him being removed from the offensive-coordinator role.
The Eagles went 3-5 in their final eight games, including their season-ending 23-19 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFL Wild Card Round on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field. Philadelphia averaged just 19.0 points per game over its final 10 games.
Jalen Hurts Will Have Some Influence On Who The Eagles’ Next Offensive Coordinator
There was a disconnect between Patullo and Hurts, which reportedly led to the 2025 struggles.
So trying to avoid that again, Sirianni explained how the influence in finding a playcaller will be shared from owner Jeffrey Lurie down to Hurts and running back Saquon Barkley and other team members.
“Of course you have so many resources to be able to use to help you make the best decision you possibly can,” Sirianni said. “You’d be foolish not to use all your resources.
“I’m obviously going to talk to [Eagles general manager] Howie [Roseman]. I’m going to get Howie’s opinion. I’m going to get Mr. Lurie’s opinion and Jalen and Saquon and [wide receiver] A.J. [Brown] and whoever it may be and let them talk to [the candidate] too.”
This will be the 10th offensive playcaller in Hurts’ past 11 seasons, and the hire could end up deciding Sirianni’s job status.
Despite winning Super Bowl LIX in February, and coaching the Eagles to the Super Bowl twice in the past four years, Sirianni’s struggles to adapt in 2023 and 2025 have left fans wondering if the Eagles can do better at head coach — especially given Roseman’s magician-like ability at bringing in superstar-caliber talent.
“At the end of the day, I have to make the best decision that’s necessary for the football team,” Sirianni said. “We have so many valued people in this organization to be able to do that.
“[But] at the end of the day the coaching hires fall on my shoulders, and I have to do what’s best for the team while using all the resources I have and using my wisdom and my judgment to help make that best decision.”
Nick Sirianni and Howie Roseman Are Still Collaborating
Eagles fans may be leery of Sirianni, since he did not make the necessary adjustments to put them in a position to win, even though Roseman did.
But according to Sirianni, the relationship between the head coach and general manager is still collaborative.
“You use all your resources,” Sirianni said. “Not to speak for Howie, but I’m going to speak for Howie, when he’s picking players, he uses all of his resources. He uses the coaches. There’s so many different things that he uses to help him make the best, most informed decision he possibly can.”
