Jalen Hurts did not have the prettiest first quarter during the Philadelphia Eagles‘ primetime matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday Night.
And there was one play in particular that saw the Eagles quarterback become the first player in NFL history to do, but it’s probably not a record he’s going to be too happy to hold.
In the second quarter, Hurts threw an interception, with the ball being snagged by Chargers defensive lineman Da’Shawn Hand, who then tried to gain some extra yards. However, Hand then fumbled the ball, and it was picked up by Hurts, who then also fumbled the ball. Los Angeles ultimately fell on the ball, giving the Chargers possession.
In that play, there were three turnovers, two of which were committed by Hurts. And afterwards, ESPN reported that Hurts become the first player since 1978 to commit two turnovers on one play.
While he made NFL History, this is not something Hurts is going to want to look back on and remember.
Here Are Some Reactions To This Interesting Moment
“The fantasy points on that play: Jalen Hurts loses 2 points for the interception, then loses 2 more points for fumbling the ball after recovering the other fumble on the play,” ESPN’s Field Yates posted on X. “-4 points on one play. Never seen that before.”
“That Jalen Hurts play broke the ESPN Monsters Inc broadcast lmaoooo,” one person posted, including a video of the Monsters Inc broadcast glitching following the three turnover play.
“If I told you this morning that Jalen Hurts would throw a pick and fumble on the same play or Philip Rivers would come out of retirement, which one would you think is fake?,” CBS Sports’ Jamey Eisenberg wrote.
Eagles and Chargers’ Poor Second Quarter Makes History

The Chargers and the Eagles combined for a total of six turnovers in the second quarter, marking the most in a quarter since Oct. 27, 2013, when the Denver Broncos and Washington Commanders recorded seven in the fourth quarter, ESPN reports.
With that, it’s also the most combined first half turnovers on Monday Night Football since the San Francisco 49ers faced off against the Arizona Cardinals in 2009.
Along with the single play that involved three turnovers, Jalen Hurts and Justin Herbert both threw an interception, while Herbert also recorded a fumble.
Landon Dickerson Questionable To Return

The Eagles offensive line was already thin, with Lane Johnson being sidelined due to a foot injury as Monday marked his the third straight game he’s missed. So, when Landon Dickerson went down in the second quarter of the game, it certainly raised some concerns.
Brett Toth replaced Dickerson, and after halftime, Dickerson was announced as questionable to return with a calf injury. He went into the locker room, but has returned to the sidelines.
As for Toth, he has started three games this season, filling in for Dickerson at guard along with playing center in place of Cam Jurgens in Weeks 8 and 10.
UPDATE: Landon Dickerson returned to the game in the third quarter.
