The Pittsburgh Steelers hosted quarterback prospect Taylen Green for a pre-draft visit as they continue to wait for a 2026 decision from veteran Aaron Rodgers.

The NFL Draft is just days away, and the Pittsburgh Steelers are still without an answer at quarterback. Future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers is still unsigned, and it remains to be seen whether or not he will be their starting quarterback this season. With 12 draft picks on the horizon, an answer could be revealed soon as to what Pittsburgh might do.

ESPN senior insider Adam Schefter joined The Pat McAfee Show on Monday to give the latest update on the situation between the Steelers and Rodgers. He revealed that money is not an issue for both sides.

No Contractual Issues Between Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers

Here is what Schefter had to say about the ongoing saga between the Steelers and Rodgers:

“I just was told that money is not an issue here. The contract’s not the holdup here. It’s just Aaron (Rodgers) taking time and doing what he does and operating on his own time schedule…This is going to linger for a little bit, it seems like.”

At 42 years of age, Rodgers has earned the right to be on his own timeline. He has accomplished everything there is to accomplish as an NFL quarterback. The four-time MVP and Super Bowl MVP could now be looking toward the next phase of his life. He has also made all of the money he needs for the rest of his life.

Still, the opportunity to return to the Steel City for at least one more run with the Steelers and his old coach, Mike McCarthy, could be appetizing. After leading the team to its first AFC North title in five years despite playing with a makeshift wide receiver core and a struggling defense, Rodgers could be the one to lead Pittsburgh on a deeper playoff run in 2026.

The Steelers’ Offense Could Be Much Better in 2026

If Rodgers ends up returning, the Steelers have a great chance to be contenders once again in 2026. Despite battling a fractured wrist in the back half of the season, Rodgers found a way to galvanise the offense. He posted 25 total touchdowns and just seven interceptions. Now, he could potentially have one of the best wide receiver duos at his disposal if he returns with Michael Pittman Jr. and DK Metcalf. He’d also have a pair of 1,000-yard scrimmage backs in Jaylen Warren and Rico Dowdle.

Of course, Rodgers’ history with McCarthy goes all the way back to 2006 when McCarthy was hired as the head coach of the Green Bay Packers. In between when Rodgers was named the starter (2008) and when McCarthy and the Packers parted ways (2018), the two made magic happen for years on offense. They led the Packers to eight consecutive playoff appearances, five NFC North titles, three NFC Championship game appearances, and a Super Bowl victory. Time will tell if they end up linking up one more time at the end for Rodgers.
