The Pittsburgh Steelers are signing interior lineman Brock Hoffman after all.
NFL insider Mark Kaboly reported late Friday night the Steelers agreed to a 1-year deal with the former Dallas Cowboys lineman. Hoffman started seven games in each of the past two seasons with Dallas.
“The Steelers have signed C/G Brock Hoffman (6-4, 302) to a 1-year deal to strength their depth in the interior of the offensive line,” wrote Kaboly on X. “The 26-year-old played 4 seasons with the Cowboys.
“He went undrafted in 2022 out of Virginia Tech, but was an UDFA of Cleveland that year.
He was added to the Dallas practice squad late in 2022 by now Steelers coach Mike McCarthy.”
As Kaboly noted, Hoffman began his career under first-year Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy. He appeared in three games as a rookie during 2022.
Hoffman then dressed for all 17 regular season contests for the Cowboys each of the past three years.
In 2024, Hoffman started the final seven games. During 2025, he started Weeks 3-8 and then again in Week 18.
Besides quarterback, interior offensive line, specifically left guard, was the biggest roster hole remaining this offseason for the Steelers. The team addressed that twice Friday.
In addition to Hoffman, the Steelers also re-signed backup center Ryan McCollum, who can also play guard.
With both Hoffman and McCollum, the Steelers have addressed their interior offensive line depth. It’s also possible Hoffman could compete for the team’s starting job at left guard.
Steelers Sign Interior Lineman Brock Hoffman: Report
There were reports during the legal tampering period that the Steelers had landed Hoffman. But Hoffman refuted those reports himself to The Fort Worth Star Telegram’s Nick Harris.
In the end, though, Hoffman is headed to Pittsburgh, according to Kaboly, about a week and a half later.
This offseason, Hoffman was a restricted free agent, but the Cowboys declined tendering him a contract.
The offer would have been a second-round tender, which the team likely considered too expensive for Hoffman. But that doesn’t mean Dallas didn’t want to keep the lineman.
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer was quite complimentary of Hoffman and fellow offensive lineman T.J. Bass, who the Cowboys did tender a $5.76 million contract.
“Both of those guys are studs,” Schottenheimer said, via Dallascowboys.com’s Tommy Yarrish. “They’re glue pieces for us. They’re always prepared. They’re ready.
“Both of those guys could start for other teams in the league, we’re just very, very talented like I just talked about. Both of those guys coming back would be big for us.”
Hoffman made his first six starts of 2025 at center. He started the season finale at left guard.
During 2024, Hoffman made a majority of his starts at right guard. He also played 109 snaps at center over the course of the entire season.
Steelers Offensive Line Depth in 2026 Offseason
The Steelers lost starting left guard Isaac Seumalo to the Arizona Cardinals in NFL free agency. The team might still add a starting caliber guard this offseason, but with Hoffman and McCollum, the Steelers added strong interior line depth Friday.
Pittsburgh also re-signed veteran offensive tackle Jack Driscoll for line depth. Driscoll finished last season on the Steelers practice squad.
The Steelers are returning their other four starting offensive linemen next season, but the team didn’t have a lot of depth. General manager Omar Khan has found some with experience at affordable prices this March.
If the Steelers don’t sign another guard, they could draft one on Day 2 or early on Day 3. Hoffman could start until that rookie is ready to enter the lineup.
