As a former undrafted free agent, veteran wide receiver Cody White has worked hard to appear in 20 NFL games during his career. But entering his sixth season, there was something left unchecked on his NFL resume — make a team out of training camp.
On August 26, White added that to his list of accomplishments. The Seattle Seahawks included White on their initial 53-man roster at the league’s cutdown deadline Tuesday.
The receiver addressed on Instagram what it meant to him to be on the team’s first official roster of 2025.
“Not everybody’s journey is the same, my football life has been crazy,” White wrote on Tuesday. “I’ve been cut 8 times, been on 5 different teams. I’ve been in the league for 6 years, I’ve never made the 53 man roster after training camp until today!!
“All praise to the man above, perseverance and hard work. Just know there will be tough days, tough moments, tough years, just keep going and never quit!
“‘Quitters never win, and winners never quit’
“I can finally call my momma and tell her I MADE IT!”
Last season, the Seahawks waived White after training camp. But the team brought him back on its first practice squad of 2024.
The Seahawks elevated White for the first time last year in Week 9. He caught two passes for 44 yards. White played in four games for the Seahawks last season from Weeks 9-13.
Barring a late change to the team’s roster over the next week, he will dress in Week 1 for the first time in his NFL career.
Cody White Addresses Making Seahawks Roster
White began his career as an undrafted free agent for the then defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs in 2020. That probably wasn’t the best place to start, but as the saying goes, one has to start somewhere.
White lasted just a few days at Chiefs training camp. Kansas City released White on July 29, 2020. The New York Giants and Denver Broncos also waived White before the end of training camp.
The receiver earned his first extended NFL opportunity with the Pittsburgh Steelers. After spending most of 2020 on the team’s practice squad, he dressed for 15 games in 2021.
White caught five passes for 33 yards. Four of those receptions came from two-time Super Bowl champion Ben Roethlisberger.
In 2022, the Steelers waived White as part of their training camp roster cuts. He spent the season on the team’s practice squad and played in one game. White had one catch for two yards in the single contest.
White never played for the Steelers again after that. During August 2023, the team waived him with an injury.
White Makes Second NFL Appearance With Seahawks
After recovering from his ailment, White signed with the Seahawks practice squad in October 2023. The receiver has been off and on the team’s active roster and practice squad over the past 22 months. But he hasn’t signed with another organization.
White made his Seahawks debut last season in Week 9.
During his college career, White posted 143 receptions, 1,967 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns at Michigan State. To begin the 2025 season, he should provide receiving depth and special teams contributions.
Last season, White played 62 offensive snaps and 49 snaps on special teams in four games with the Seahawks.
On the team’s unofficial depth chart, White is listed as a third-team receiver along with Dareke Young.
