The Seattle Seahawks will be without one of the team’s receivers for the foreseeable future. Seattle announced the news on December 30, 2025, just days before the team takes on the San Francisco 49ers with both the NFC West title and No. 1 seed on the line.
Seahawks wide receiver Cody White sustained a groin injury against the Carolina Panthers in Week 17. Seattle announced White is being placed on injured reserve, putting into question the wideout’s availability for the remainder of the season. White is required to miss four weeks after being placed on injured reserve.
Additionally, the Seahawks signed Amari Knight off the team’s practice squad to the active roster. Seattle cut safety D’Anthony Bell and signed wideout Montorie Foster Jr. to add depth at receiver with the loss of White.
Here’s a look at the latest Seahawks news ahead of the team’s massive showdown against the 49ers.
The Seahawks Placed WR Cody White on IR Ahead of 49ers Game
White is not a major name for most NFL fans, but the playmaker appeared in 10 games this season. The receiver is best known for his contribution on special teams but also posted three receptions for 90 yards and two touchdowns this season.
“When we say 70-man team, we mean that,” White said back in September, per Seahawks.com’s John Boyle. “Everybody on our team has an opportunity to prove that they can play in practice, and then get the opportunities in the game.
“It’s really what you do with your opportunities, so whatever you did in practice, continue that in the game. When you get your opportunity, make the most of it.”
Where Is Seahawks WR Tory Horton? Status of Playmaker Remains Uncertain Ahead of NFL Playoffs
After seemingly every Seahawks story is posted on Heavy Sports, the 12s ask what happened to rookie receiver Tory Horton. After starting his career with 13 catches for 161 yards and five touchdowns, Horton has not played since November 2.
Horton is dealing with a shin injury and head coach Mike Macdonald recently revealed that the rookie wideout cannot go full speed. It remains to be seen if Horton will be ready for the postseason but securing the No. 1 seed with its first-round bye could help the receiver and others who are battling injuries.
“It’s just a matter of if we are going to get there. … As a coach, of course, we want him back yesterday,” Macdonald noted on December 28, per The Olympian’s Gregg Bell. “That’s just not the way it works.
“So the more time you spend worrying about it, you’re going to drive yourself crazy. “He’s working really hard. Our trainers are doing a great job. It’s just the nature of the beast, you know.”
Seahawks Playmaker Rashid Shaheed Is Expected to Play vs. 49ers
It is not all bad news for the Seahawks as it appears wideout Rashid Shaheed is expected to play against the Niners. Shaheed had been in concussion protocol, putting his status in doubt against the 49ers.
“WR/KR Rashid Shaheed was a full participant the last two days and has no game designation,” ESPN’s Brady Henderson detailed in a January 1, message on X. “So he’ll play after leaving the Carolina game early with a concussion.”
Seattle will once again be without star left tackle Charles Cross, who has been ruled out for Week 18. Left tackle Josh Jones has been practicing, leaving the door open for the offensive lineman to be active in San Francisco.
