The Seattle Seahawks filled two open practice-squad spots on Wednesday, signing cornerback Mike Reid and nose tackle Wy’Kevious “Bubba” Thomas just days after promoting wide receiver Cody White and defensive tackle Quinton Bohanna to the 53-man roster.
Seahawks Add Rookie CB Mike Reid, Massive NT Wy’Kevious Thomas to Practice Squad
Seattle acted with two vacancies available following Saturday’s roster moves and made both additions official on November 12. Reid, an undrafted rookie out of South Dakota, originally signed with Carolina, spent time on the Panthers’ practice squad and was released late last month before landing in Seattle. Thomas, an undrafted rookie from South Alabama, signed with Seattle in May, went through camp and the preseason, and was waived at final cuts before rejoining on the practice squad.
The Seahawks had created the openings when they signed White and Bohanna to the active roster over the weekend, part of a flurry that also addressed injuries on the interior defensive line.
Practically, expect both rookies to plug into scout-team work immediately. If injuries or matchups demand help, either could be a standard gameday elevation from the practice squad.
What It Means for Seattle’s Depth Chart
Cornerback: Reid gives Seattle a developmental boundary option to compete behind the starters and nickel. His size/speed profile also projects to kick-coverage duty if he’s elevated.
Nose tackle: Thomas adds short-yardage and goal-line heft for early downs. After a full offseason and preseason in the building, his learning curve should be short if called up.
Flexibility: By addressing depth via the practice squad, Seattle preserves a 53-man slot and cap flexibility. Each player can be elevated up to three times without exposing him to waivers on the way back down, thanks to the practice-squad Standard Elevation Addendum.
The Seahawks had needs at both positions after placing defensive end Jarran Reed on IR, and with an uncertain injury status around defensive back Josh Jobe. Seattle also has some injuries in the back end of the secondary, too, as Julian Love currently sits on the IR, and the Seahawks shift Nick Emmanwori to multiple positions. The Seahawks needed to bolster their depth.
The timing also matters, as Seattle faces a loaded Los Angeles Rams team that sits atop the NFC West standings alongside Seattle. Both teams enters the key Week 11 matchup with identical 7-2 records. Both are crushing opponents, too, as the Seahawks have a 103-point differential, while the Rams are sitting at a 98-point differential.

Seattle’s approach mirrors how playoff hopefuls manage the bottom of the roster: churn the practice squad to fortify high-leverage positions, keep the cap clean, and be ready for Sunday attrition. A rookie corner and a massive nose tackle won’t grab blockbuster headlines, but they can swing a drive – or a game – when injuries hit and matchups tighten.
