The Washington Commanders appear to have found their replacement at center for Tyler Biadasz.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported the Commanders signed veteran interior offensive lineman Nick Allegretti to a new 2-year deal. Pelissero broke the news on X on Monday morning.
“A three-time Super Bowl winner with the Chiefs, Allegretti started the last two games for Washington at center last season in place of injured Tyler Biadasz, who is being released,” added Pelissero.
Allegretti started all 17 games for the Commanders at left guard during 2024. He served more in a reserve role during 2025. But as Pelissero indicated, Allegretti replaced Biadasz at center for the final two weeks.
Allegretti will potentially replace Biadasz next season as well.
The Commanders surprisingly released Biadasz on February 26.
Commanders Sign Nick Allegretti to New Contract
In a follow-up tweet, Pelissero offered more details on Allegretti’s new deal.
The contract is not a 2-year extension. The Commanders and lineman agreed to tear up what was left of his 1-year contract. Essentially, this new agreement keeps Allegretti in Washington an extra year.
“Nick Allegretti had one year left on his contract,” wrote Pelissero. “He’s now signed through 2027 on a deal.”
The Kansas City Chiefs drafted Allegretti at No. 216 overall in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He became a starter for the Chiefs by his second season during 2020.
Injuries decimated Kansas City’s offensive line at the end of that campaign. Allegretti didn’t remain a starter in 2021.
Still, Allegretti stayed with the Chiefs as a backup for three Super Bowl victories. He joined the Commanders to become a full-time starter in 2024.
Allegretti has started 21 games in two seasons with Washington. He started 13 contests over five years with the Chiefs.
While he’s a great story in Washington, the Commanders might not be done addressing center this offseason.
According to the Pro Football Focus player grades, Allegretti was below average as a starter in 2024. He then played the worst football of his career in 2025.
Bringing back Allegretti on a new deal gives the Commanders two years of stability in the middle of their line. But finding a more suitable upgrade might still be on the team’s 2026 offseason to-do list.
Commanders Released Center Tyler Biadasz
Bringing back Allegretti became more important for Washington after the team parted ways with Biadasz.
ESPN’s John Keim reported on March 1 the Commanders released the starting center not to save cap space but because of his 2025 performance.
“There’s one key reason why Washington released center Tyler Biadasz on Thursday. It’s not about the salary cap. It’s about the cash,” Keim said, via Commanders Wire’s Ivan Lambert.
“Biadasz did not have a strong 2025 season. And his performance did not warrant keeping him around at a salary cap hit of just under $11M. But the Commanders will save only about $2.8M in salary cap, and they have already the fifth-most space available in the NFL.
“The big factor with Biadasz? He was due $8.3M in cash. They can now allocate that money elsewhere in free agency, adding to their desire to be aggressive. Of course, some of that money will go to Biadasz’s replacement. But keep this in mind, if Biadasz had been playing at a higher level, they wouldn’t have made this move.”
Biadasz started 31 games in two seasons with the Commanders. Before that, he was a reliable starter for the Dallas Cowboys.
Biadasz made the Pro Bowl with the Cowboys during 2022.
The 28-year-old will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason. The Commanders now have even more wiggle room under the salary cap and extra cash to spend.
