WWE superstar Seth Rollins recently shared some shocking news about the backstage tension between Triple H and Vince McMahon helping his career. Rollins appeared on Shannon Sharpe’s podcast to discuss everything WWE related and went in-depth about his biggest moments. One interesting story featured Rollins revealing that he used McMahon’s hostility towards Triple H to get the Pedigree finisher move approved.

Rollins shared the following via Club Shay Shay, as transcribed via Fightful:

“It took me a couple of months before I decided to just steal Triple H’s pedigree. He was done at the time and not wrestling anymore. ‘Alright, I’ll take it.’ I was his protege. I tried to use a couple of different things, and none of them really took.

I was like, ‘If I ask Triple H if I can use the pedigree, I feel like he’s going to say no.’ He was the only person who has ever used it. ‘Here’s what I’ll do. I’ll ask Vince about it, and I know Vince will say yes just to spite Triple H and Triple H can’t say anything about it.’ It was a good idea.”

McMahon was still the top boss at the time and the only person above Triple H on the totem pole. Rollins wisely used the two bosses and their strange dynamic against each other to get the Pedigree finisher.

Why Seth Rollins Had This Plan

The overall story goes back to Sharpe asking Rollins about the time he lost his Curb Stomp finisher. Rollins felt heartbroken that the move most associated with his WWE rise was taken away from him right when he became WWE Champion for his biggest push.

The Pedigree was Rollins’ dream scenario for a replacement finisher, and it made perfect sense since Triple H was his on-screen mentor. Rollins believed that Triple H would have turned him down since no other wrestler in WWE history had used that finishing move outside of him.

McMahon agreed to Rollins idea, but Seth felt this was due to Vince wanting to throw some shade towards Triple H. This is an important comment from a top star confirming that there was some backstage tension between McMahon and his son-in-law preparing to eventually replace him.

Seth Rollins Confirmed Vince Rumors

Rumors have circulated for years that McMahon liked to make things difficult for Triple H. Things like changing gimmicks that worked under Triple H in NXT or burying talents that he believed in saw fans criticizing McMahon for losing touch.

Triple H has since done a much better job as head honcho since replacing Vince after the allegations led to the latter being removed from power. Rollins is one of the first top stars from the 2010s to provide a deeper look into the McMahon and Triple H relationship.

Everything worked out well for Rollins, who continued to find immense success with the Pedigree finisher. However, he was allowed to bring back the Curb Stomp as his current finisher. Both McMahon and Triple H pushed Rollins due to his importance to WWE and his great performances.
