The 2025-26 season is officially over for the Toronto Maple Leafs, and it was a year to forget for the Original Six club. After entering the season with the expectation of once again being a top team in the Eastern Conference, they instead were one of the worst teams in the entire league. The Maple Leafs finished this season at the bottom of the Atlantic Division standings with a 32-36-14 record. They also lost each of their final seven games of the season.
Now, after underperforming in such a major way, it is clear that changes to their roster will be made this summer. This is especially so when noting that the Maple Leafs have already fired Brad Treliving from the team’s general manager position.
When looking at the Maple Leafs’ roster, they are entering the summer with multiple pending free agents. With how the season went for Toronto, it is highly likely that at least a few of them won’t be back next season.
Due to this, let’s look at three Maple Leafs pending free agents who likely won’t be back for the 2026-27 season.
Calle Jarnkrok’s Struggles This Season Will Likely Make the Maple Leafs Move On
One pending unrestricted free agent (UFA) who likely won’t be back for the Maple Leafs next season is forward Calle Jarnkrok. He saw his production drop off significantly this season, as he had just six goals and eight points in 56 games.
With Jarnkrok coming off a bad year and being 34 years old, it is hard to see him being a fit on a retooling team like the Maple Leafs anymore. Because of this, don’t be surprised if the Maple Leafs let him hit the free-agent market this summer
Nick Robertson Should Get A Much-Needed Change of Scenery This Summer
Nick Robertson has been in the rumor mill for multiple years now, and even previously requested a trade from the Maple Leafs. Now, with Robertson entering the summer as a restricted free agent (RFA), it would not be shocking in the slightest if the Maple Leafs decide to move on from him. That remains the case whether they trade him or decide not to tender him a qualifying offer.
Robertson has not been able to cement himself as a legitimate top-six forward in Toronto, but a fresh start could benefit him. In 78 games this season with the Maple Leafs, he set career highs with 16 goals and 32 points. Perhaps this could lead to teams being interested in taking a chance on him this summer.
Troy Stecher Is Another Maple Leafs Pending UFA Who Could Walk
With the Maple Leafs being focused on the future, it is fair to wonder if they will move on from 32-year-old pending UFA defenseman Troy Stetcher. While the right-shot blueliner was a decent waiver pickup for the Maple Leafs this campaign, he could be easily replaced by a younger defenseman.
In 64 games this season split between the Edmonton Oilers and Toronto, Stetcher had three goals and 14 points. If he hits the market this summer, he should generate some interest from teams looking for more defensive depth.
