Carlos Alcaraz can make tennis history when he takes on Novak Djokovic in the 2026 Australian Open final on February 1.
Should Alcaraz defeat Djokovic at Rod Laver Arena, he’ll become the youngest man to ever complete a career Grand Slam. Should Djokovic win, however, he’ll become the oldest Grand Slam winner in the Open era and surpass Margaret Court for the most Grand Slam titles all time.
The 22-year-old Spaniard advanced to the finals after defeating Alexander Zverev in the longest semifinal match in Australian Open history (5 hours, 27 minutes).
“This one was one of the more demanding matches that I’ve ever played in my career,” Alcaraz told reporters after the match. “I think physically we just push each other to the limit today… Every step more, every just one second more of suffering, one second more of fighting, is always worth it.”

The last time the Alcaraz took on Djokovic in major final, he won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, 7-6, to defend his Wimbledon title in 2024. While Alcaraz is heavily favored to defeat the 38-year-old legend, Djokovic keeps defying the odds at Melbourne Park.

Alcaraz is incredibly close with his family, which includes his mother, Virginia Garfia Escandon, and his three brothers, Alvaro, Sergio, and Jaime.
After defeating Australian Alex de Minaur 7-5, 6-2, 6-1 in the quarterfinals, Alcaraz gave his dad a moving shout out when asked about his familial crew.
“It’s great for me,” Alcaraz said. “Sometimes, we just make some jokes in the locker room…. I need my team, I need my people around me. They are the reason I play such great tennis. Off the court, they make feel great, like I’m at home.
“I’m just really proud and happy to see my dad [living] these experiences because it was really his dream when he was playing tennis. I’m just really proud and really happy to see him making this dream with me.”

While Alcaraz remains a single man, he’s got a full crew cheering him on at Melbourne Park. Those sitting in his box include his physio, Juanjo Moreno, coach Samuel Lopez, agent Albert Molina, and his older brother, Alvaro.
Alvaro used to play competitive tennis, so he’s got an intimate understanding of what his little brother is dealing with on the court. After Alcaraz won the 2023 Cincinnati Masters final, the six-time Grand Slam champ got choked up talking about his big brother.
“I have my brother here as well,” Alcaraz said. “It’s great to have you here, supporting me every day, to make me be a better person every day, learning from you as well, so thank you very much for being with me.”
