In Sunday’s US Open final, Carlos Alcaraz emerged victorious, defeating Italian star Jannik Sinner to win his second US Open title, and claim the title of world No. 1.
After becoming the first man since Roger Federer to reach the finals of the US Open without dropping a set, Alcaraz closes out the 2025 season one more Grand Slam on his already impressive resume.
Following the match, Alcaraz reflected on what the win, and reclaiming the title of world No. 1 mean to him.
As he explained to members of the press:
“It’s great when you achieve the goals you set up yourself at the beginning of the year, it feels amazing. So since I got the chance to recover the No. 1, it was one of the first goals that I had during the season just to try to recover the No. 1 as soon as possible or end the year as number one. So for me, [to] achieve that once again, as I said, it is a dream.
“Doing [it] the same day as getting another Grand Slam feels even better. This everything I’m working for and I’m really happy to be able to live this experience.”

Alcaraz Reacts to Sinner’s Comments About Being Too Predictable
During his own post-match press conference, Jannik Sinner explained that he believes he’s become too predictable, beating opponents round after round without needing to take risks and go outside of his comfort zone. Once he plays Alcaraz, however, the Italian star is forced out of his comfort zone.
As he explained post-match, he doesn’t think Sinner’s game is too predictable:
“I wouldn’t say I read his game, that he was predictable, but I know him so it’s been so many matches against him. As he said as well, he watched a lot of my matches just to study my game. I do the same. I watch a lot of his matches. First of all because I love watching him play, I think it is unbelievable what he’s doing. And secondly it’s because I love to study him, how he plays.
“So I wouldn’t say he’s predictable but I know his style. I know what he’s gonna do or his main main weapons on his game. So I just try to be focused on that. But I mean even even though he could feel predictable it’s really, really hard to maintain their level and playing long rallies against him.”
