Former UFC light heavyweight title contender Anthony Smith has released his first statement since his arrest in July.
Smith was arrested Monday, July 27, in his native Nebraska on three felony charges of first-degree domestic assault, terroristic threats, and first-degree false imprisonment.
A judge set his bond at $500,000, and Smith posted it, granting his release from custody, though one of the conditions of his release was that he was not to have any contact with his wife.
Smith has pleaded not guilty and is set to return to court in September.
Nearly one month after his arrest, Smith has released his first statement.

Taking to his social media, Smith issued a statement on his arrest.

Anthony Smith Arrest Details
The details of Smith’s arrest are not for the faint of heart, though it is important to note that Smith is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
“Smith is accused of threatening to kill his wife if she did not go home with him following an altercation at a bar in Gretna, Neb., after which he grabbed her and pushed her into the vehicle. The attorney’s office further alleges that investigators concluded Smith tried multiple times to hit his wife with the vehicle when she escaped during the drive, but that she was able to maneuver out of the way and avoid physical harm. A warrant was issued, and Smith later turned himself in, according to officials,” the Sarpy County (Neb.) Attorney’s Office said at the time of the arrest.
Smith was initially not supposed to leave Nebraska as one of the conditions of his release. However, according to KETV 7 Omaha, a judge will allow Smith to travel to the Dominican Republic to compete in a sporting event from September 27 to October 3, which is presumably his next fight in the Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA heavyweight tournament.
