Colby Covington recently opened up about his future and hinted at a potential move to WWE. Covington is seeking more activity and is keeping all his options open once his UFC career is over.
‘Chaos’ is set to compete for the first time since December, 2024, when he takes on Luke Rockhold in a wrestling match. That matchup headlines RAF 5, which takes place tonight. The promotion has ties to pro wrestling, as the late Hulk Hogan was among its founders.
Covington, known for his brash personality, made it known that he is interested in a WWE career. The former interim UFC welterweight champion believes he would be a perfect fit for the pro wrestling leader. Like the UFC, WWE operates under the TKO umbrella.
During an interview with RG, Covington confirmed he has a desire to join WWE. He also revealed that the UFC are well aware of it.
“Yeah, absolutely, [I’m interested in transitioning to pro wrestling],” Covington said. “The door is definitely open. I’ve had some conversations with the UFC.”
Colby Covington Has Pro Wrestling Experience
It’s important to note that Colby Covington already has previous experience in pro wrestling. In 2017, ‘Chaos’ appeared in Impact Wrestling (now TNA Wrestling). There, he was involved in a storyline with former American Top Team teammate Bobby Lashley.
At the time, Covington was still a young, aspiring contender rising up the UFC‘s welterweight rankings. However, pro wrestling was something he always wanted to do, and capitalized on the opportunity.
“[The Impact Wrestling deal] came together from my teammate Bobby Lashley and also my manager Dan Lambert. They made the relationship happen. It’s always been something I want to do,” Covington said during a 2017 interview with Fightful MMA. “I love the dynamics of it and everything that goes into it. That’s definitely an avenue I’ll go down in the future.”
Covington Credits Logan Paul’s WWE Success as Added Inspiration
Now, nine years later, Covington is still passionate about that move. He credited YouTuber-turned-boxer Logan Paul as an inspirational example of how WWE can be a possibility. Covington sees many similarities between them and believes he can make a smooth transition.
Paul has developed into one of WWE’s top heels in a very brief period. He has been involved in major feuds with the likes of Roman Reigns, Randy Orton, and CM Punk since joining the roster. His in-ring ability and promo skills have earned him high praise among current and former WWE superstars.
“You got [Paul], who came over from boxing, and he’s doing a tremendous job over there [in WWE],” Covington told RG. “It makes sense. I think I can transition well, I know how to shoot promos, and no one knows how to wrestle better than me. I’d love the opportunity when the timing’s right.”
He emphasized that although WWE remains a goal, he is focused on RAF and his UFC career.
“I’m just going to keep working hard, and my first priority is this weekend with Real American Freestyle, getting my hand raised, and then we’ll go from there.”
