The Washington Commanders will take on the Detroit Lions on Saturday afternoon in their second preseason game.
The matchup will mark veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs’ Washington debut, and Commanders coaches expect him to play several series alongside other starters.
Before the game, the Commanders announced Diggs’ temporary jersey number, as he still doesn’t have an official number with the team.

Many have continued to wonder which jersey number Diggs will wear with the Commanders, and the team provided an update ahead of his debut Saturday.
Diggs will wear No. 3 against the Lions, but the Commanders revealed that it won’t be his final number. He’ll likely settle on an official jersey number after roster cutdowns begin over the next two weeks.

Diggs’ 2026 Outlook
Diggs is now a few weeks into his tenure with the Commanders after signing with the team this offseason. He comes off a 2025 campaign in which he helped the New England Patriots reach the Super Bowl as their leading wide receiver.
The 32-year-old finished the season with 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns. He’ll now play for his fourth team in four years.
Diggs enjoyed the best stretch of his career with the Minnesota Vikings, who drafted him out of Maryland in 2015, and the Buffalo Bills, where he spent four seasons after leaving Minnesota in 2019.
He’s a four-time Pro Bowler and former first-team All-Pro who has recorded 942 career receptions for 11,504 yards and 74 touchdowns.
