Falcons OC Zac Robinson Raises Doubts About Future With Troubling Offensive Admission

Falcons OC Zac Robinson can't fix Atlanta's third down offense.

It’s been another ugly season for the Atlanta Falcons. With an embarrassing 37-9 loss to the Seattle Seahawks at home in Week 14, the Falcons are now 4-9 and officially out of playoff contention.

Atlanta is now one season away from tying a franchise record for most consecutive seasons without a playoff appearance, which sits at eight. The last time the Falcons reached the postseason was in 2017, when they advanced to the NFC divisional round.

“Our fan base deserves a winner,” Falcons head coach Raheem Morris said after the Seahawks loss.

Morris, now 12-18 through his first two seasons with the Falcons, may not make it through the rest of the year — or could be dismissed shortly after. If he does survive into 2026, he will almost certainly have to overhaul his staff, starting with offensive coordinator Zac Robinson, who has drawn nearly as much criticism as Morris.

The loss to Seattle marked the fourth game this season in which Atlanta scored 10 points or fewer, and the second time they failed to score a touchdown. Robinson could be on borrowed time.

Zac Robinson Can’t Fix One of Falcons’ Biggest Offensive Problems

The second-year offensive coordinator was specifically questioned about Atlanta’s lack of third-down conversions on Tuesday, December 9. His response didn’t help his job security.

“It’s hard because that’s the most disappointing part of our offense, is the third down,” Robinson said, according to Terrin Waack.

Robinson noted that when he was an assistant for the Los Angeles Rams, his chief responsibility was third-down strategy, so “for it not to be going down the way you’re hoping is very frustrating.”

Against the Seahawks, Atlanta converted just one of 13 third-down attempts. Seattle entered the game ranked second in the NFL in third-down defense, allowing a conversion rate of 32.6%.

Still, the Falcons are second-to-last in the league in third-down conversion rate, ahead of only the Tennessee Titans at 31%. They rank 16th in total offense, 18th in passing, 12th in rushing and 27th in scoring.

Falcons’ Offensive Struggles Make No Sense

What’s been so frustrating about the Falcons offense this season is the fact that there’s no clear reason it should be this ineffective. Before the 2025 NFL Draft, Atlanta had spent four straight first-round picks on offensive playmakers: Kyle Pitts, Drake London, Bijan Robinson and Michael Penix Jr.

London has fought injuries and losing Penix midseason was a blow for both his development and the team’s long-term trajectory. But having the league’s most expensive backup quarterback in Kirk Cousins should have alleviated some of that, right? Plus, Bijan Robinson and Pitts have stayed healthy all season. So what gives?

Then again, the offense was struggling long before Cousins reentered the starting role. Inconsistency had already become the theme, and by Week 11 — the game in which Penix suffered his season-ending injury — Atlanta was already in the middle of a five-game skid.

What becomes of this offense, Penix, Zac Robinson or even the entire coaching staff now stands as one of the franchise’s biggest mysteries heading into 2026. But ultimately, it starts with owner Arthur Blank.
