Drunken Student Faces Community Service For Frying Hamster

Fried Hamster

Who would torture such a sweet animal like a hamster?

21-year-old James White, that’s who. Yahoo U.K. News reported that James White has been convicted and is set to serve 120 hours of community service because he deep fried a hamster.

White also has to pay £1,000 costs for his crime, plus he’s banned from owning any animals for the next eight years.

Phil Brown, the prosecutor for White’s case, reported the story of what happened. On February 2 of this year, cops were called to a block of flats in the U.K.. Upon arriving, they came upon a drunken James White and got a whiff of a pungent odor. White proceeded to tell the officers:

What, I f****** fried it? I fried it.

Frying Hamster

White recently went to court and admitted to harming the female Syrian hamster after a court reasoned that it couldn’t be established if the hamster was alive/dead before it went in the frying pan. District Judge Roy Anderson told White he was sentencing him due to the fact that the rodent died minutes before, when White defendant was handling it. Judge Anderson also concluded that the hamster didn’t die due to natural causes.

On Thursday, White decided to take a guilty plea on the basis that his rough treatment of the hamster killed it before being fried. District Anderson gave this statement at the time of White’s hearing:

By virtue of your treatment of this small, unfortunate rodent you’ve destroyed your good character and acquired a criminal conviction. It’s accepted now that there was rough handling of that animal but that it couldn’t be established that it was putting it in the frying pan and applying heat that caused its death. Had that sadistic conduct been established I would be dealing with you in a far more serious way than I am.

RSPCA Inspector Claire Mitchell wasn’t very pleased to hear about White’s cruelty:

I don’t know why anyone would think of doing that when drunk.

White will be laying low atYork University where he’s currently a student majoring in international relations and politics.
