WATCH: Lee Corso & Steve Spurrier Pick Florida on Gameday

Lee Corso brought Smokey the Tennessee mascot on set of College Gameday only to fake him and the Tennessee fans out. Corso brought out the Gator headgear as he picked Florida to upset Tennessee.

Steve Spurrier and Phillip Fulmer joined Corso on ESPN’s College Gameday as the Celebrity Guest Pickers. Gameday was in Knoxville, Tennessee in anticipation of the Florida-Tennessee rivalry game this afternoon. Spurrier and Fulmer both went with their former schools.

Spurrier spent many years as the Florida head coach while Fulmer was the Tennessee coach during the same time period. The two coaches squared off at the pinnacle of the Vols-Gators rivalry. According to 247 Sports, ESPN considered going with a celebrity not involved in sports like they often do, but opted for the throwback pick of the two coaches.

Spurrier had the edge in the rivalry with a 7-3 record against Fulmer. Spurrier often poked the Tennessee fanbase with quips like “You can’t spell Citrus with U-T.” The joke made light of Tennessee’s frequent postseason appearance at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando.

Fulmer was fired by Tennessee in 2008 while Spurrier went on to coach at South Carolina. Spurrier abruptly retired during the 2015 season and it marks the second time he has been on College Gameday since he retired.
