Rapper Earl Hayes killed his actress girlfriend before taking his own life over her affair with Trey Songz. The cops have called it a murder suicide with reports that the whole thing was watched by boxer Floyd Mayweather, who was facetiming with Hayes at the time. The tragic shooting happened early on the morning of December 8.
Here’s what you need to know:
1. Earl Hayes Was ‘Crushed’ By Moseley’s Affair With Songz
Songz tweeted his condolences to Moseley but hasn’t commented on the rumors of his affair with Moseley. TMZ reports that in 2012, Hayes and Moseley separated over her affair with Songz. The couple eventually reconciled but a source told TMZ that Hayes was “crushed and never got over it.” The gossip site goes on to say that Hayes “frequently” brought up Songz.
2. It Had Been Reported That Moseley Cheated on Hayes With a ‘Famous Singer’
TMZ quoted a source on the day of the shooting saying Hayes thought she was cheating on him with a “famous singer.” Speaking to KTLA, Hayes’ life coach, Burrel Wilks, said the couple were in the process of breaking up. Wilks later told NBC Los Angeles:
I’ve had sit downs with both of them so whatever happened behind those doors we’ll never know, but I heard out of her own mouth, he never raised a hand on her so this is kind of stunning.
3. The Shooting Prompted a Massive SWAT Response
TMZ goes on to report that the shooting happened early on the morning of December 8 at a swanky Los Angeles apartment block called The Grove, located at West 3rd Street in the 6000 block. KTLA reports that after shots were fired at the apartment complex, a full LAPD SWAT team responded. After cops entered the couple’s apartment, the bodies of Moseley and Hayes were found. Both had been shot. It’s officially unclear who shot who. CBS Los Angeles reports that neighbors heard a woman scream from inside the apartment.
4. Moseley Regarded Herself as an ‘Artist’ Rather Than an ‘Actor’
Moseley was the star of VH1’s dance show “Hit the Floor.” The drama show follows a group of girls who are NBA cheerleaders. According to her official website, Moseley says that she worked for Britney Spears, Beyonce and Janet Jackson as a backup dancer. Her bio adds that she is a native of Vancouver and that she regarded herself as an “artist” rather than an “actress.” When she joined VH1 in 2013, she spoke of the positive atmosphere at the show:
Everybody works out, everybody’s focused, everybody wants to do better, everybody wants to be harder. It’s like this morale and this energy between all of us that is magical.
On her talent agency website Moseley says that working for Janet Jackson was her favorite job and JLo is her “inspiration.” In January 2014, her best friend’s boyfriend, Atlanta DJ William Fernando Barnes, was gunned down outside of his home in Georgia.
