Phoenix Sundown: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

A San Diego man has been accused of sending child porn to one of the underage stars of Lifetime’s Dance Moms. That suspect has been named locally as 36-year-old Phoenix Sundown. He was arrested on September 2, after a mysterious package was discovered addressed to the underage girl in Allegheny, Pennsylvania.

Here’s what you need to know:


1. The Package He’s Accused of Sending Included Handwritten Letters & an Elvis Blanket

The package that Sundown is accused of sending was destroyed by authorities in Allegheny, reports WTAE. The station said the bundle included an Elvis blanket, a coffee maker, handwritten letters, a tribal blanket and a scrapbook. Though it wasn’t strongly suspected that the package contained any explosives, authorities destroyed the package with a water cannon. After which, Phoenix Sundown of San Diego was quickly identified as a suspect. USPS Inspector Tammy Mayle told WTAE that the box “contained items that were inappropriate for minors — harassing, stalking items.” The station went on to name the victim as Dance Moms star Jojo. KUSI reports that Sundown was arrested by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

TMZ reports that Sundown was arrested in San Diego. The gossip site say he’s been formally accused of sending explicit matter to a minor and is being held on a bail of $25,000. It’s reported by TMZ that Jojo’s family told police that Sundown has posted photos of kidnap victim Elizabeth Smart online and would tag Jojo with the hashtag “Future Goals.” In 2002, Elizabeth Smart was kidnapped from her home in Utah by Brian David Mitchell. She was sexually abused by him and his wife, Wanda Barzee, until her rescue in March 2003.


3. Sundown’s Facebook Page Is an Exhibition of the Bizarre

On his Facebook page, Sundown exhibits bizarre behavior. He says he’s a native of Sutcliffe, Nevada and has lived in London, England. Sundown says he studied at the University of California in Irvine and has done time at Lovelock Correctional Center. He lists his job as a food runner at Planet Hollywood. Sundown’s last update came on August 16 and simply read “winning.” Sundown frequently reposts photos of celebrities, in one such post from Katie Holmes he writes “Sundown is the last name of my moms adopted white grandfather.” In response to an Instagram post from Jamie Lynn Spears, Sundown writes “after Im done child molesting Ill meet you in person.” He also posts pornographic photos on his page.

TMZ reports that in the past Sundown has admitted to writing about complex sexual fantasies and sending them to Spin magazine.


4. Sundown Did Time With OJ Simpson

The Lovelock Correctional Center, where Sundown says he did time, is home to O.J. Simpson, where the former NFL star is serving 33 years for armed robbery. Sundown was sentenced to three years in prison in 2007 for assaulting his girlfriend, who was 18 at the time while Sundown was 29, reports TMZ. During his time there he was diagnosed with a mental illness and sent to a prison hospital.

On the day of Sundown’s arrest, the Los Angeles Times reported that a man named Lewis Eugene Starks Jr. had been accused of stealing and trying to sell Simpson’s Heisman Trophy award.


5. Jojo Just Released Her Debut Single

According to the Wikia page for Dance Moms, JoJo Siwa began on the show in its second season, reappearing in the fourth and fifth seasons. She has just released a single named “I Can Make You Dance,” according to her Twitter page.
