Bee Fee Honee After ‘Shark Tank’ Deal: Interview With Owners

In Season 7, Bee Fee Honee entered the Shark Tank with their vegan honey made from organic apples. Owners Katie Sanchez and Melissa Elms struck a sweet deal with three Sharks- Barbara, Mark and Chris- and have enjoyed steady growth since the show.

Before their Tank debut, we interviewed the entrepreneurs about the product, how the idea came about and their commitment to saving bees. As the episode reairs, we caught up with them once again to see what new developments are underway at the company. “We have already surpassed our sales numbers from last year in just a few months,” they explained. They are all incredible! Mark and his team have provided us fantastic support with our e-commerce platforms, label design and sales & marketing advice & support.

Retail Partnership

We continue to grow our sales at brick-and-mortar locations across the country. Our customers have been really pushing our initiatives and asking their local grocers to approve our products. Our largest retailer supporters are Natural Grocers, Wegmans, Fred Meyer, Whole Foods Market, Sprouts Farmers Markets, Brookshire’s and hundreds of independents like Seward Community Co-operative and The Herbivorous Butcher. Chris Sacca was instrumental in getting us approved in his chain of fast-casual restaurants, Veggie Grill. Mark Cuban and his team helped us get up and running on, Amazon Exclusives and Zulily and really helped us grow in the e-commerce space.

Significant Expansion

We have hired some additional staff for our production facility and we are expanding into a contract manufacturing agreement with a great company in Houston, Texas. Our first big production is scheduled for mid-July and our capacities will expand by 600 percent.

We will be launching new flavors of our honee at an industry event, the Fancy Food Show, in New York City this weekend. We have two new products that we will unveil at the show and then online through our website newsletter. We are working on co-branding with in other CPG [Consumer Packaged Goods] categories and have formed initiatives to align with our Save the Bees, Save All Pollinators campaign.
