22-year-old singer and former The Voice Contestant Christina Grimmie has died. She was shot by 27-year-old Kevin James Loibl while signing autographs after a concert at The Plaza Live in Orlando, according to The Guardian. The shooter evidently targeted her specifically and traveled to Orlando to kill her.

With her when she died was her brother, who was her best friend and who has been an integral part of her journey over the years. In a post on Facebook following his sister’s death, Marcus wrote that his sister was his partner in life.

He wrote, “Christina was more than my sister. She was a partner in life. A superstar. A goofball. Introverted. And a friend to everyone. Genuinely. But above all…she was my baby sister.”

Mark Grimmie, who goes by Marcus, was with his sister at her autograph table when a man approached and began shooting.

Christie’s brother immediately tackled the shooter to the ground, and the unidentified man then shot and killed himself, according to The Guardian.

Orlando Police say that Marcus likely saved the lives of many who were in attendance, although most of the full venue had gone home by this point in the evening.

Christina’s brother is already being called a hero for his actions on Friday evening.

On Twitter, many fans who had been at The Plaza Live for the concert expressed gratitude for Marcus, feeling that they might not be alive if it weren’t for him. One user said she was one of 15 people left in the area at the time and that this could have easily turned into a rampage without Marcus’ actions.

Those who were not in attendance also showed appreciation and recognized how much more deadly the scene could have gotten without him. The suspect was evidently carrying two guns at the time of the shooting.

Marcus was always extremely supportive of his sister and in awe of her talents, and he actually served as her tour manager. According to many fans who have gone to see Christina over the years, Marcus was at every concert taking photos with fans and being easily approachable.

Some fans shared their experiences of hanging out with Marcus at Christina’s events.

Over the years, Marcus has always been his sister’s biggest fan. On his Instagram page, he often posted pictures of himself listening to Christina’s music, celebrating her latest success.

“I’m done being surprised by cool things she does. She’s very talented and she’s worked incredibly hard — it’s a dangerous combination,” he said in a 2014 interview.

Fans of Christina on Twitter are trying to be there for Marcus during this difficult time, and many are sharing experiences they have had with him at concerts. They say he is a very kind and approachable person who would frequently hang out with these total strangers at Christina’s shows.

One fan even shared a story about how at a concert, Marcus approached her about a suspicious man, making sure this girl was safe and asking if she needed anything.

The username for Christina’s YouTube channel was a reference to The Legend of Zelda, and Christina once said she and her brother really bonded over video games.

“My brother is a year older than me, and we’re literally best friends, so when he started playing video games when he was 5, I would watch him because I was too young to understand what to do,” she said in 2011. “I’ve loved video games ever since I was that young. But Zelda…I remember it was my favorite game to watch my brother play.”


5. He Often Played Guitar With Christina

It seems that love of music runs in the family, and Marcus himself is a talented guitar player.

In fact, he has frequently accompanied his sister, as was the case in several of Christina Grimmie’s YouTube videos. He also often performed with her on tour.

Christina Grimmie became well-known for this YouTube account years before she ended up competing on NBC’s The Voice. She says she has her brother to thank for being able to tour with Selena Gomez; according to Inquisitr, it was Marcus’ contact information that allowed her to be reached.

“I was 16 and in school at the time. My brother was in my [YouTube] video for only a second, so I put his link in the description,” Christina said. “Brian [Selena’s stepdad] tried to contact me, but it’s very hard to do that because of all the messages. So he contacted my brother, instead. So then my brother texted me in the middle of school, like, ‘I really think Selena Gomez’s stepdad is trying to get a hold of you.’”

Shooter is a coward to have killed himself. If that was my sister and I seen that shit happen trust me after he was tackled i would’ve grabbed the gun or hunting knife he was packing and done worse.
