Just two months before killing 49 people and wounding 53 others at the Orlando gay nightclub Pulse on Sunday, Omar Mateen transferred the quitclaim deed of his Port St. Lucie house to his sister, Sabrina Abasin, and his brother-in-law, Mustafa Abasin for just $10, a tiny fraction of what the house is worth.

This has lead to speculation on right wing sites that Abasin might have known something about what Mateen was up to. The Daily Mail asked him on Friday, but he refused to talk to their reporter. He would also not comment on the deed transfer.

Here’s what we know about Abasin and the Mateen family. This post will be updated as more information comes in.

1. Abasin Said Mateen Was ‘A Very Good Guy’ & He Was Shocked by the Shooting

Mateen’s brother-in-law was willing to talk to the media in the hours after the nightclub shooting on Sunday. Abasin said that he did think Mateen could carry out such an attack.

“Omar was a very good guy,” Abasin told The Los Angeles Times. “You know, right now I feel that I’m grieving. I’m not awake. It’s unbelievable. It wasn’t him.”

Abasin, an insurance broker, claimed that he never heard Mateen talk about plans to attack or anything negative about the LGBT community. “He loved my kids. I didn’t see any emotions,” Abasin told the LA Times.

When NBC News first called Mateen’s listed address, it was Abasin who picked up. “We are in shock and we are sad,” he said.

2. Mateen Signed Over the Deed to His House to Abasin on April 5

According to the public documents, first found by journalist Paul Sperry, Mateen signed the home over to his sister and Abasin on April 5. Fox News also reproted on the deed transfer.

The date is just over two months before the attack on the Pulse nightclub. Noor Zahi Salman, Mateen’s second wife, is listed as the witness. Sperry reports that documents also reveal that Abasin was born in Afghanistan.

When the Daily Mail asked about this deal, Abasin wouldn’t comment. It’s surprising that Mateen would sign over the house for just $10 because the house is estimated to be worth $165,000.

Mateen, his sister Mary and their father, Seddique Mateen, bought the home in September 2013. They took out a loan of $76,000 to buy it and Salman was named on the mortgage. Seddique signed over his deed to the home to Sabrina and Abasin for $100 in February, the Daily Mail reports. Mary also signed over her deed.

Abasin posted two videos of Seddique, who also posted videos on what appears to be his own YouTube account. The videos Abasin posted are just slideshows that feature audio of Seddique. One is called “Seddique Mateen” and another is “Seddique Mateen Presidential Candidate.”

In 2013, Abasin also posted a 40-minute video called “History of Afghanistan.” This video has images and clips from Afghanistan, interrupted by text screens with facts about the country.

The video on Seddique’s page has him speaking in Dari. It was also posted a year after the last elections in Afghanistan. Sperry also reports that Abasin is a founding director of Seddique’s “The Durand Jirga Inc.” nonprofit organization. Florida incorporation papers also list Sabrina and Mary as directors. Abasin is listed as Mustafa Aurakzai. The company’s mailing address is in Port St. Lucie and filed for incorporation on November 30, 2010. The company’s most recent annual report was filed on April 28, 2015.

Salman has spoken with authorities. Today, a source told CNN that Mateen texted her while he was in a bathroom at the Pulse nightclub two hours after the attack began. Salman responded, telling him she loved him, and also tried to call. CNN reported that it’s still not clear if she called authorities at that time.
