Mohamed Sanu is engaged to his girlfriend, Lauren Hettinger.

Hettinger and Sanu, who appear to be very much in love, have been enjoying the Atlanta Falcons run to the Super Bowl together, sharing photos celebrating on the field and at Super Bowl events in Houston.
The 27-year-old wide receiver and Hettinger, 25, have a son together, Mohamed Jr.

1. Sanu Proposed to Hettinger During a Soccer Game at Wembley Stadium in London

Mohamed Sanu made a splash with his proposal to Lauren Hettinger last February, with video of the memorable moment, which you can watch above, making headlines around the world.

He made the proposal in the stands during the League Cup Final soccer game between Liverpool and Manchester City at Wembley Stadium in London.

According to the Daily Mail, there were some tense moments leading up to the proposal. Sanu planned to pop the question after Liverpool scored a goal. But they trailed 1-0 for most of the match.

“I thought about that…I was hoping they scored,” he told the Daily Mail. “It was a spur-of-the-moment kind of thing. I was trying to figure out a way to ask her and when I found out I was going out to London, I was like, this is perfect! I waited for the game and I thought, I’m going to wait until they score and once they scored that’s when I did it.”

With only seven minutes left in the game, Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho scored, and Sanu go down on one knee.

She said yes.

Soccer already had a special place in Hettinger’s heart. She played midfield in high school and college.

“It was pretty cool – a special moment for me and my fiancee,” Sanu told the Daily Mail. “She loves soccer, she grew up playing it and when we were able to go to Wembley it felt like it was perfect timing.”


2. Their Son, Mohamed Jr., Was Born in August 2015

Lauren Hettinger gave birth to the couple’ son, Mohamed Jr., in August 2015, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

After the birth of his first child, Sanu changed the name on the back of his jersey to Sanu Sr. He told the Enquirer his son would be called Mo, for short.

Mohamed Jr. was born at 3:38 a.m. on August 22, and his father said his life changed at that instant.

“You get a different perspective on life,” Sanu Sr. said. “You feel totally different. It’s awesome. It’s one of the best feelings in the world. Nothing compares to this feeling.”


3. She Is an Ohio Native & Was a Standout Soccer Player at Fairfield High School

Hettinger was born and raised in Fairfield, Ohio, about 25 miles north of Cincinnati, where her future husband used to play for the Bengals.

She was a standout soccer player at Fairfield High School. graduating in 2010. She scored 14 goals and had 8 assists during her senior season, according to BeRecruited.com. She was named first-team All-City by the Cincinnati Enquirer that year, and was her team’s MVP.

Hettinger has four siblings.


4. She Played Soccer in College at the University of Cincinnati

After high school, Hettinger went on to play soccer in college, as a midfielder, at the University of Cincinanti, according to the school’s website.

She scored a goal during her junior year, in which she played 18 games.

Hettinger was also part of the U.S. Olympic Development Program from 2004 to 2008 and played on the ODP European Tour in 2008. She was a member of Cincinnati United Premier.

Her grandfather played in college for the Cincinnati Bearcats, according to her profile on the school’s website.
