The stage is set for what’s being billed as the “Fight of the Century” between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Terence “Bud” Crawford on Saturday, September 13.

Alvarez (63-2-2, 39 KOs) is making an absurd amount of money to participate in the highly-anticipated showdown against Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs). The 35-year-old is guaranteed to rake in more than $100 million just for stepping in the ring after signing a four-fight deal with Turki Alalshikh, the chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, in February.

During a press conference earlier this week, Alalshikh was asked about being the first person to guarantee a Mexican athlete that much money. “No, you get the number wrong,” he said, per USA Today. “More than that.”

Alvarez is one of the most successful boxers of his generation, and it looks like his only son, Saul Adiel, wants to follow in his father’s footsteps.

Saul, 7, whose mother is Nadia Sepulveda, is in Las Vegas to watch his fight against Crawford at Allegiant Stadium on Saturday night. The boxer’s eldest kid, Emily Alvarez, from a previous relationship, is in attendance, along with his wife, Fernanda Gomez, and their two daughters, Maria Fernanda and baby Ava Victoria.

Funnily enough, Alvarez’s own father, Santos Alvarez, initially didn’t want him to be a fighter, he told ESPN in 2023. However, his raw talent couldn’t be denied, and his older brother, Rigo, made a convincing argument: “He’s going to be famous; he’s going to be a star. And he’s not going to get hit.”

Speaking to The Sun about his son in September 2023, “He loves boxing. He told me, ‘Hey, when am I going to fight in Vegas?” Alvarez recalled.

“I said, ‘OK, take it easy. When you grow up and you’re 18 years old, maybe you can fight in Vegas. First you’re going to take the first punch and then let me know if you want to be a boxer or not.'”

The 11-time world title champion also warned Saul that it’s not an easy life. “He needs to love boxing, he needs to have that discipline. He needs to be able to handle that sacrifice that comes with boxing. Plus that talent, because if you don’t have talent, find another sport.”

“Boxing is hard and you have your kid there who loves boxing it’s hard, it’s going to be hard for me,” Alvarez admitted. “But if he loves boxing that much then I need to support him no matter what.”

A few months ago, Canela reiterated to his son that there’s a whole world of other sports he could pursue. “If you want to be a boxer, a wrestler, a golfer, an F1 driver, footballer, whatever you want to be, as long as it makes you happy, I will always support you,” he said.

“I’ll always be there for you whatever you want to be. All I want for you is to be happy with whatever you do. If it makes you happy, go for it. It’s not about what I want you to be, because it’s your life. I’ll be here to support you.”
