Saul “Canelo” Alavrez is often considered one of the greatest in a long tradition of great Mexican boxers.
While Alvarez may have a long way to go before he is spoken of in the same breath as the incredible Julio Cesar Chavez — whose ring career lasted 25 years in which he won 106 fights with only six defeats and two draws — Alvarez has more than earned his place in the conversation over his 20 year career with 63 wins against just two losses and a pair of draws.
But the Guadalajara native was already a world champion and one of the world’s best-known and successful fighters when he married his wife, Fernanda Gomez. Now, Gomez can be seen regularly at ringside supporting Alvarez, who fought just once in 2025 before Saturday’s mega-fight against four-divison champion Terence Crawford, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
Here’s what you need to know about the 29-year-old wife of the unified super-middleweight champion.
She is From the Same City as Alvarez
While Alvarez was born in Guadalajara, in the Mexican state of Jalisco, on July 18, 1990, his future wife entered the world in the same city of about 5 million people, almost exactly six years later — June 22, 1996.
But it wasn’t until 20 years down the road that she met Alvarez, but not in Guadalajara. According the Madrid-based site AS, the soon-to-be couple first connected in San Juan, Puerto Rico, at a gala event for the children’s charity OMB (which stands for “Only Make Believe”).
Their relationship was rocky at first, as they broke up a year later, but reunited soon afterward before marrying in 2021.
Gomez is Mother to Two of Alvarez’s Children
According to a report by People Magazine, Gomez and Alvarez did not wait long to have their first child. Daughter María Fernanda Alvarez was born in December of 2017.
Their second daughter, Eva Victoria Alvarez, did not come along for another eight years, arriving only on August 9 of this year. But Alvarez kept busy in the interim, fathering his only son, Saúl Adiel Alvarez, in 2019 with his then-business partner Nadia Sepulveda.
The boxer has also fathered two more daughters. Alvarez and high school sweetheart Karen Beltrán were reportedly just 16 when Emily Cinnamon Alvarez was born.
Mia Ener is said to be his second daughter though it remains unclear, at least publicly, who the mother may be. Model Valeria Rubi Quiroz — who also claims that she lost her virginity to the notorious Mexican drug lord Joaquin Guzman, aka “El Chapo” — has been reported to be Mia Ener’s mother, but Quiroz denies it.
She is Reportedly Worth $20 Million
Gomez has a highly successful career as an independent businesswoman and enterpreneur, apart from her marriage to Alvarez. She founded Fernanda Gómez Nailbar & Boutique in Guadalajara, and has gone on to grow a business empire that has given her a net worth of $20 million, according to the AS report.
Gomez is a Social Media Influencer
The champion boxer’s wife, in addition to being a mom and multimillionaire entrepreneur, also finds time to maintain an Instagram account with 1.6 million followers.
She Appeared in a Major Hollywood Movie
Though not an actress, Gomez made a cameo appearance — alongside her husband — in the 2023 hit movie Creed III, starring Michael B. Jordan as the boxer son of Apollo Creed, a character in the first two Rocky films.
