The Boston Red Sox leaned into one of Boston’s most iconic traditions on Marathon Monday — and one simple question quickly turned into a clubhouse-wide debate.
As the Boston Marathon took over the city, the Red Sox social media asked the team:
The answers ranged from confident to brutally honest — and in one case, turned into a full-blown argument.
Most of the Red Sox Didn’t Even Pretend
A large portion of the clubhouse didn’t hesitate — it was a hard no.
Isiah Kiner-Falefa kept it simple: “No. Could not.”
Garrett Whitlock followed with: “No.”
Greg Weissert didn’t sugarcoat it: “Absolutely not.”
Zack Kelly? “No chance.”
Marcelo Mayer and Wilyer Abreu both gave quick “No” answers, while Kutter Crawford echoed the sentiment.
Bryan Bello summed it up with: “Oh, nah.”
Garrett Crochet added his own version: “Ohhh, no.”
And then there was the assistant hitting coach Dillon Lawson, who may have had the most relatable answer of all:
“Hell no. I wouldn’t even want to walk one. The important question is, Do you want to run it? I don’t think I want to.”
Even among elite athletes, 26.2 miles isn’t something anyone takes lightly.
A Few Believers Spoke Up
Not everyone backed down from the challenge.
Jovani Morán answered: “Yeah, of course.”
When asked why, he doubled down:
“I can run. I feel like I can run.”
Carlos Narváez also said: “Yes, of course.”
Joe Cronin didn’t hesitate either:
“Yes, yes I could.”
Ceddanne Rafaela landed somewhere in the middle:
“I don’t know about that.”
Jarren Duran Turned It Into a Debate
Then Jarren Duran took it a step further — and stole the moment.
Duran initially said “Yes,” but immediately started breaking down the conditions.
When someone off camera pushed back with “No chance,” Duran fired right back:
“No time limit? Yeah.”
Then he kept going:
“Do you have to run the whole time or can you walk a little bit?”
“Hundred percent.”
Later in the video, Duran doubled down in a separate exchange with Cronin:
“Do you think I can run a marathon tomorrow?”
Cronin answered: “Yes.”
Duran responded: “That what I said!”
It turned a simple yes-or-no question into a full-on debate — and easily the most memorable moment from the clip.
Red Sox Pick Up Win on Marathon Monday
The Red Sox also delivered on the field, picking up an 8–6 win over the Detroit Tigers on Marathon Monday.
Boston finished with 12 hits in the victory, pulling away late after a tight game through the middle innings.
The win added another layer to the day at Fenway Park — a strong performance on the field to go along with the lighter moment that played out in the clubhouse.
A Marathon Monday Tradition, With a Twist
The Red Sox have long been tied to Marathon Monday, playing their annual early game at Fenway Park while runners make their way through Boston.
This year’s TikTok offered a different kind of look inside the clubhouse — one that showed even professional athletes know a marathon is a completely different kind of test.
And at least for now, most of them are happy sticking to baseball.
