Gregory Weissert: Breaking News

Weissert pitched a scoreless ninth inning during which he allowed one hit in the 5-0 win over the Blue Jays on Monday. Weissert has tallied 62 or more appearances the last two seasons with the Red Sox and is on pace for that again with 13 trips to the mound over Boston's first 29 games. The right-hander is being used primarily low-leverage situations thus far after blowing nine save opportunities last season, the second most in MLB. Weissert does continue to boast above-average swing-and-miss stuff, however, recording 16 strikeouts across his first 11.2 innings in 2026.

Weissert earned the save in Sunday's 4-3 win over Detroit, striking out two while allowing a hit and a walk in a scoreless ninth inning. Called upon with a one-run lead, Weissert quickly faced trouble when he yielded an infield single to Andy Ibanez, putting the winning runner on-base. However, the right-hander quickly regained control, using five pitches to retire the next two batters and close out the game. The 30-year-old ends the year with a 2.82 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 57:21 K:BB across 67 innings of work.

Weissert (6-5) blew the save and took the loss against the Pirates on Friday after allowing one run on two hits while striking out one in two-thirds of an inning. Weissert was brought in for the sixth inning with two runners on base, tasked with protecting the Red Sox's two-run lead and to put southpaw Payton Tolle in line for his first major-league win. Weissert wasn't able to get the job done, yielding two doubles in a row that brought three runs home to put him in line for the loss. With Friday's performance, the 30-year-old right-hander has a 3.48 ERA and 1.06 WHIP across 10.1 innings in August.
