Gregory Weissert: Everything you need to know

Weissert allowed two runs on one hit and one walk over one inning in Thursday's 10-2 loss to Atlanta. Weissert was handed a tough ask by interim manager Chad Tracy, who brought the reliever in to a bases-loaded, nobody-out jam in the middle of the sixth inning of a tie game. The right-hander proceeded to walk the first batter he faced and then was taken deep for a grand slam, with Danny Coulombe getting stuck with the loss as a result. Weissert's struggled this season with inherited baserunners, allowing 12 of 21 to score. His own ERA ballooned to 4.43 (11 ER in 22.1 IP) following the outing.

Weissert pitched a scoreless ninth inning during which he allowed one hit in the 5-0 win over the Blue Jays on Monday. Weissert has tallied 62 or more appearances the last two seasons with the Red Sox and is on pace for that again with 13 trips to the mound over Boston's first 29 games. The right-hander is being used primarily low-leverage situations thus far after blowing nine save opportunities last season, the second most in MLB. Weissert does continue to boast above-average swing-and-miss stuff, however, recording 16 strikeouts across his first 11.2 innings in 2026.

Weissert earned the save in Sunday's 4-3 win over Detroit, striking out two while allowing a hit and a walk in a scoreless ninth inning. Called upon with a one-run lead, Weissert quickly faced trouble when he yielded an infield single to Andy Ibanez, putting the winning runner on-base. However, the right-hander quickly regained control, using five pitches to retire the next two batters and close out the game. The 30-year-old ends the year with a 2.82 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 57:21 K:BB across 67 innings of work.
